i just got my TR last night, its a weiand 5987 stage2. no cracks, mods, stripped holes etc. looks real good. when you look into the tops you can see where the upper meets the lower. there is a step there. like the lower openings need to be ported. is that a MUST DO? have you seen it worth 20 horse on the dyno? if i can leave it thats ok. stock stroke 440, 4800stall 6500rpm tell me anything you know of the history about the stage2.. any good?

I had a weiand a few years back & spent the $$$ to have not just that but the ports gasket matched they were off quite a bit,you might want to see how close the ports match the gaskets as well. If I did not want to invest the $$$ to pay someone to do it I would take the die grinder and only go down a inch or two and blend them in some.

I really would like to do a tunnel ram. What did you have for a carb and intake? or is this a new build? What carbs are you going with?

All of the tunnel rams I've seen have that problem, including two M1 tunnel rams Port match them on the two halves

just a clean up would prolly work wonders, and a deep port match.

well i too like the tunnel-ram. when i had my mopar m1 i was running 2 pretty much box stock carter comp 750 carbs.my best time is in my sig with them.i just put the weiand stage 2 tunnel ram on my dart but have not had a chance to try it out yet with the carter carbs. But i am going to be putting on a set of Holley 650 dp on it soon. what would you recommend for jetting? also was thinking about buying a set of eather holley or profrom main bodys for it. the two halves of my intake did not match up very well at all. so i bolted it together and port matched the two halves came out great i thought.Mopar65

I run an Indy TR with twin 1050s. My TR is box stock and the ports are smaller than my heads but talking to Jeff at Modern he said it would cost around $500 to port match it and it would only net maybe 15hp. Not worth messing with it IMHO and I can get more bang for that $500 elsewhere in the car.

Sometimes there is a little wiggle room between the top and base, so you might try to unbolt it and see how much movement there is before you start grinding. It would be worth a look to take the top off and set the intake on the heads to see how closely the ports match up.

As far as tunnel ram carbs for a race car, I like the 4224s (660 center squirters). They need their idle circuit leaned out, but that can be fixed with a piece of wire. For wide open use, they are hard to beat, that is why they are also popular with the boat boys. Grumpy was a little partial to them also. You can set them end to end and still get the bowls off, so the linkage is also straight forward.

Phase II 451 Stage VI/590/1050 9.82/135
Phase III 383 906/Victor-Pump gas 11.30/119

Yes it fits under the Unlimited fiberglass hood I have with a 6 pack scoop. Mine is a low deck with B1-BS heads.

look at the bracket that bolts througth the manifold

I used a cut off wheel and grinded the back bottem side so the trottle bracket would slide under

oblonged the throttle bracket to slide up or down to adjust heigth

found scrap metal 1 1/2 wide 3 inch long

the top part of ANDYF,S bracket I cut it up and used the kickdon section and bolted it together ,the length of the lokar cable deremined where to bolt it together

also with the cutoff wheel I cut a slit in the hole of the kickdown setion so I could slide the cable througth then taking it all apart

I actually just used a factory throttle cable bracket with a Lokar cable. Don't know if you can see it.

Shoebox whats ur combo? I have that exact intake on my street car. I had 2 450 mechanical secondary carbs on it and ran 11.70 took them off put on 2 600 vac secondary carbs and ran 11.50's the 600's also had metering plates put in the back. .030 over 440 w factory heads cleaned up a bit and comp solid lift 570? lift cam 3500 converter and a whopping 323 gear. My 60ft's were a tad better w the 450's but the 600's picked up every where else. best 60 was like 1.79 and fastest mph was 119.

I have a good friend that picked up 3 tenths by switching from 600's to 660's that's my next direction but first gotta get rid of those 323's I ran it to 6600 in drive on the highway and it felt like i was holding onto a hand gernade!

I didn't know there was a club. I use 2 Demon 750TR carbs on my 408 small block. I did have to match the two halves of the M1 TR too. My Demons are pretty much right out of the box with only jet and squirter changes. They work great but yeah I had to fix a few things on them like the stripped squirter screw holes and one of the base plates was assembled backwards.

the 1987 intake has a small port in it for some BB applications. I picked up a solid .15 by porting mine on a stroker that had ported 906 heads.

Well, I have a question about tunnel rams. I remember reading a while back, going to show my age, but the article was about taking a tunnel ram for a B block and making spacers out of pylwood so it could be used on a RB block. Could you do that and open the ports up to M/W size? If you did that would the runners in the manifold be large enough to support the M/W ports in EZ-1 heads? I know it would work, but would it work as well as the Indy tunnel ram? If not what could you expect to loose with this set up? I know it is only a guess, but just wondering.

I ran a pair of 750's, converted them to 4-corner idle circuits, and Dominator style secondary throttle blade adjusters. Used the Enderly linkage.

Dodgeguy, just have aluminum welded on the tops of the runners and port to Max-Wedge size, guys have been doing that for ages.

Thought I could be cheap and get a B manifold, but you are right, that is a better option.

Awesome! I always wanted the 590 but I need to keep the rpm's in
Check. This 256 108 cam should drive a lil better I'd be thrilled
With a 10.xx @123 with my car!

Its a simple combo that is very effective, but I still think it requires a little rpm to get it to work good. TR's by nature tend to like a little rpm. The car responded well when I moved the shifts points to 6600.

The 4200 converter hurt my car more than anything as it was always a struggle to get the car to 60ft in the low 1.50's. When I called PTC, he suggested something in the mid to high 5000 range to make the combo work better. So at the 4800 you will be a little better off than I was. Overall, I think you will like the combo and it will do what you want.

5 1/2 tall sixpack scoop on my old MAZ liftoff hood

the 4 inch tall scoop would not work

Ari - From the valley pan end rail mounting surface to the top of the vent tubes how tall is this intake / carb combination. I have a eddy performer RPM / 750 / drop base air cleaner that measures about 11". This touches my stock hood. I want to step up to a combo that measures 16", I am wondering what that will fit under.
