I had a weiand a few years back & spent the $$$ to have not just that but the ports gasket matched they were off quite a bit,you might want to see how close the ports match the gaskets as well. If I did not want to invest the $$$ to pay someone to do it I would take the die grinder and only go down a inch or two and blend them in some.

I really would like to do a tunnel ram. What did you have for a carb and intake? or is this a new build? What carbs are you going with?

just a clean up would prolly work wonders, and a deep port match.
That's what I did with mine.

These intakes work great with 2 4779 carbs. with choke horns milled off sq jetted @ 80 with power valve block off on a strong 440-451 engine like yours.

Sometimes there is a little wiggle room between the top and base, so you might try to unbolt it and see how much movement there is before you start grinding. It would be worth a look to take the top off and set the intake on the heads to see how closely the ports match up.
As far as tunnel ram carbs for a race car, I like the 4224s (660 center squirters). They need their idle circuit leaned out, but that can be fixed with a piece of wire. For wide open use, they are hard to beat, that is why they are also popular with the boat boys. Grumpy was a little partial to them also. You can set them end to end and still get the bowls off, so the linkage is also straight forward.
