I have a '71 GTX non-rubber bumper car. I bought the hood pin kit from the Chrysler dealership "Authentic Mopar Reproduction" part. What an unbelievable POS this kit is. I wont even go into details of how bad it is as there is too much wrong with it.
To the point, the lanyards that came with it are exactly 24 7/8" center eyelet to eyelet. When installed, that length is fairly tight on the bumer and leads to scratching. One of the reasons its extra tight is that the hood pin clips are upright and pull the lanyards further.
So I ordered a new set of cables and clips from Dale's Cuda Shop and they sent me 23" cables and the correct lay-flat clips. Now there's no way in hell 23" lanyards would fit my car unless I screwed them into a different hole under my hood. I called up Dale's and said "you guys sent me the 23" and I need the 25"" She said, "we always send out the 23" and the 25" are for Superbirds"
Well it just so happens that the Restoration Shop that just finished a superb job on my car, sent me a surprise gift in the mail..NOS lanyards and clips. These lanyards are exactly 26" eyelet to eyelet; part no. 3579673
Dale's Cuda Shop only sells 6" 9" 18" 23" and 25"
So, does anyone know the correct length for a '71 GTX? And out of curiosity, a rubber bumper GTX and Superbird? What the heck is going on? Am I mounting them in the wrong hole? A little screw hole near the hood pin. Do they not route around the front of the bumper? I've seen some pictures of people routing them between the bumper and the body.
I must say that Dale's has been excellent to deal with and the high quality repop parts are almost an exact match other than the length of course.

I saved these diagrams from somewhere. Maybe they'll help regarding the question of where the cable mounts. The model year isn't apparent in the pub, but the picture of the RR/GTX looks like a 71 (maybe)
Floyd those pics look like 70 to me. There was no Coronet R/T for 71. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif)

North You have it in the wrong location, it should be from the hood pin 33/4 inches forward from the hood pin. My car is a factory air grabber and that's where mine are
These pictures conflict with how mine are/were mounted, as my 1970 e-body had the pin holes oriented from side to side NOT front to back. I've seen them oriented from side to side on lots of early press release photos too.
1970 Plymouth 'Cuda #'s 440-6(Stock drivetrain in storage)currently 493" 6 pack, Shaker, 5 speed Passon, 4.10's & EFI. 1968 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible Paxton Boosted 408 Magnum EFI with 4 speed automatic overdrive, 3800 stall lock-up converter and 3.91's (closest thing to an automatic 5 speed going)

Strange, thats a totally different fender to cowl support. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shruggy.gif) Yours doesn't have the factory holes and has a long groove down the middle opposed to the ridge. The factory stamped hole in mine where yours is, is too large for the sheet metal screw. Maybe your car is an ealier build. Mines a Sept 70 build and that blue car is a '72 model. Oh well, close enough. Thanks guys. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beer.gif)

If you look at Plymouth's "Rapid Transit System" brochure for 1971, on the options page, it shows the flat pin clips. However, they have them shown in the verical position, not laying flat. That is, the clip is clipped over the top of the hood pin, not sideways.
