The motor was just rebuilt and when I started it for the 1st time I had to really crank on the oil filter to get it to stop leaking. After changing the oil and filter, the new filter is still leaking after tightening it with the filter wrench. I checked where the filter screws onto and I don't see any nicks or gouges. What else am I missing? It is comming from the top of the oil filter. Wix # 51515, this is what the parts guy gave me. Dave The plate that RR supplied me appeared to cure the problem. I swapped the one he sent me with mine and no more leaks. I looked at mine and could see no obvious difference between the 2. I even reused the filter and the old plate gasket. Go figure. Robert my cleaned up oil soaked floor thanks you very much. You be my new bestest buddy, Dave Stay tuned for parts identification quiz comming, Stuff I never tagged when I took it off 4 years ago thinking it would remember where it went. Yeah right!

What engine are you talking about ? If it is a smallblock, does it have the angled adapter, or straight ? You may have adapter gasket problems with either one .

Shouldn't need to tighten any more than hand tight. Something is wrong. There isn't an old gasket stuck to the filter mount?

SB I'm assuming. Need to pull the nipple/plate & Felpro sells the large circular gasket seperate as opposed to the MP 3 piece blister pack & the FP one is slightly thicker/seals better. clean the block circular recess thoroughly & your plate may b warped but start w a good visual & go from there & I have one if you end up needing one

It is a 318. After the initial start up, I pulled the nipple off, but the plate wouldn't budge from the motor. I didn't know if it was suppose to come off so I didn't force it. Also, there was no gasket between the nipple and the plate. Is there suppose to be? I'll pull the filter and check again. Dave

Dave I'll grab the plate today/package it/send it out Monday. Just checked & yes my PM's are full/need to go thru them. When I reach 283 it gets (red) flagged, must b a chebby thing. The Felpro # is 70522 for the large circular single gasket

Even though many people praise WIX filters, a few years back they had a bad run where the screw-on threads were tapped wrong.. The filter would start but not thread on very easily/smoothly, I knew something was wrong so I ended up not using these as I didn't want to screw up the fitting on the oil pump. I did talk to the guys @ WIX and they tried giving me the sunshine treatment... So I chucked the filters and switched brand. The next time I was @ Napa they confirmed that they had sent back many filters to WIX as they had a bad run..
Just my $0.02...
