Hello! Putting the finshing touches on my 512 build for my Challenger. Mostly street, maybe couple trips down the 1/4. Some engine info: 440 stroked to 512, 440Source kit, OOTB Indy EZ's, 511 lift Comp, 10.5-1 comp, NGK plugs, FireCore wires, stock 6pak set-up. I'm using the Mopar elect dizzy, orange box, 4 wire ballast. Just wondering if this ignition is the best? I've read most use the MSD style. I've put a lot of $$ in the engine, and want the best ignition system too. What's the thoughts? Take care! Jeff

The MSD 6 series is hard to beat for a street/strip build. Nothing basically wrong with the MP setup except QC on the boxes seems questionable. The multi strike on the MSD can help starting and low RPM operation.

The Orange Mopar ECU has a built in RPM limiter in it, not good if your planning on running above 6000 RPM If you want the best then look hard at the MSD digital boxes and coils

I also agree but with that said I have the MP orange ECU on my 63 and I have run it to 6500 with no problems. In fact when we had this same box on my sons Dart he had his 400 to 6800 with no problems at all. It works fine for me and his Dart ran no faster when he took of the orange box and went to MSD. Its working good but I do plan to go to MSD down the road. Also the orange box only needs a 2 wire ballast as it should be a 4 pin box. Ron

Everything is tested and you are sure what you get not like some "three letters" brand stuff

All three of my cars have the MSD digital 6 boxes. Rock solid for years now. Plus you get built-in rev limiters and since all of my vehicles have manual transmissions, that comes in handy!!

for a simple quick setup and stock look the Pertronix is hard to beat. I ran one for several years with no problems finally switched to msd 6al and no performance difference.
I carry the pertronix setup now for a backup if the msd fails, quick to hook up only 1 wire.

I ran the 340, w/orange ECU, to 6700 several times in my 69 GTS.

The MSD 6AL still fired my 383 in my boat when it was literally being showered with water while in a "limp home mode" to the dock.

The multiple spark discharge is only effective below 3000 rpms or so.

Either are very reliable systems as far as I'm concerned. The MSD being better.

I like the original FBO A688 system, and it has the capability to LOOK stock if that's an issue...?

I like the OLDER orange boxes, but the newer orange boxes scare me so much I would toss a chrome box on just to be safe. I've had a half dozen NEWER orange boxes fail, would not hot restart, and since then EVERYTHING I own has a chrome box on it, even my motorhome.
I went with an FBO A688 on my Jensen, so far it has been flawless, I'm truly impressed.

I'm building a 67 Charger street/strip car and looking at the new FBO system that doesn't require a ballast.

Anybody here ran the new FBO system yet??

Hey Guy's! Thanks for all the input! I've been on the FBO site looking at their ignitions. They do look nice. I'd like to stay stock looking if poss. I'm just having issues with extended cranking, hi RPM "skip". Everything else is new (fuel, engine, etc) so I'm leaning toward ignition. I want to get away from the orange box and ballast resistor. Thanks again everyone! Jeff

My LIKEY that FBO deal. Had no idea but it seems like a "best of all worlds" box.

Well, except the lack of a rev-limiter, but it looks as though that's coming in Oct.

The original FBO A688 setup DOES look stock, and mine works flawlessly, I've had it on for over a year and beat my car almost daily.
I'm not sure if the original system is still for sale though??!?

If it was, I would get one for my Charger I'm doing...

To be honest I would use the chrome box... if you
were to break on the road you can put a stock box in
its place to get you home... I dont know what all
you can buy at the local parts store when it comes
to all the other ignitions but I can get some MSD
stuff local
