all it takes is about 420 HP

, Thats all it takes at 3200 lbs. I did it with stock heads & not so decent cam .

So you could do it with detuned stock 426 ?

Thats all it takes IF you apply the power to the track

I ran those numbers in 1989 in 3500lbs GTX with 11.5 trw's and an Isky 590 flat tappet 10" converter 3500 rpm stall ported 906 heads. This was a 440 .030 over with a holley street dominator and an 850 double pumper. Old school

i'm guessing that 420 is at the back tire, not flywheel hp.

Next time I am in pittsburgh I bring my pumpgas smallblock street car and we can run for a little money motor to motor.

What parameters do you want followed as far as the block, crankshaft, heads, compression, type of gasoline and so on Lots of ways to get things done, some are cheaper than otherrs

My first 440 I had in the cuda:
.030" over TRW 11.5 to 1 on stock rods and crank (balanced)
ATI super damper
915 heads 78cc, 2.14 1.81 valves (mild port work)
1.5 crane roller rockers
.590 312 mopar cam
M1 single plane with 750 annular discharge holley
1" super sucker
4200 coan convertor
4.56 with 13 x 31 tire

Every bit of this stuff was used but the balancer, super sucker, gaskets, bearings, oil pump, and rings. Just cleaned up, honed, valve job, and new paint.

Car weighed 3330 with me in it. It went 10.64 in good air, 10.70-low 80's in the heat.

My point. You can make a 340 or any SB run it will just cost you a butt load of money. And forget about using one in a 3800 lb B-body. You can run 10's in a heavy b-body w/ a stock stroke 440 w/ good off the shelf heads, small roller or 600ish solid cam, 4000 stall and 4.56's.
Small blocks are fine and yeah they can be fast but at what cost? If you are building a bracket car and looking for 10.90's and don't have a deep wallet I'd think the best route to go is w/ a BB. The guy isn't talking about running 8's spinning his junk to 7500. He wants a weekend beater. Shoot I'd bet w/ a decent tune you could get a 440 into the 10's w/ an old school 509 and iron heads.

Anyone can beat 8.67 1/4 mile time and 156 mph with a 440+060 build and 3.75 stroke ?

I helped a good friend build a 440+060 a couple of years ago.
All parts for the short block was bought from Scott Brown, besides a crane cam and an Eagle 3.75 crank he already had.

Stock RB block+060, with Eagle 3.75 crank
Pistons Ross 13:1 custom
Rods K1 steel, stock length
Cam Crane superstock grind IR-276/4714-2S-12
int. 0.707(1.5) exh. 0.670(1.5), dur. 276 at .050
Heads Indy 440-1 mildly ported with manley severe duty 2.20
Carb custom 1250 dominator on a 440-1 intake.

/Tom

What you want to [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean] now? Didn't think your duster was that fast or we going to race the wrecked daytona? Oh and if its not on the street I am going to bring the small block dragster if you want to run race cars.

I used to have a 380 cu in 11.5 to 1 eddy headed stock block eagle rods that would go 10.70s on pump gas and 9.70s on c-12 and 200 shot.I didn't have alot of money in that setup. Got crank new closeout mopar 500, and got the eddys used 800. So I bought eagle rods and got the machine work done witch is pretty much the same big or small block. So I had about 4500 in whole motor to go 10.70s in a 3350 lb a body.
