I am in the market for a complete balanced stroker kit for my 440. After looking around I see Mancini offers on balanced for $1750 on their website. It looks like a eagle crank/rods with Diamond pistons. Has anyone purchased this kit??

IMHO I would never buy a pre-balanced kit from anyone, for the same reason I wouldn't buy a kit and trust the fit and finish was as advertised. As my machinist buddy says "if it comes out of a box, it's #$%&ed up no matter who built it"

As for the parts themselves, the crank and rods are Chinese and one brand is pretty much as good as another once they are properly checked and corrected. I would buy the unbalanced kit, take it to a machinist that knows what he's doing (good luck with that) and have it balanced AFTER all the parts are checked and corrected.

Good point on the balancing. I hadn't thought about that!

I would rather get one from a high end shop like Dan ( performance only ) it will be RIGHT, you can bet on it.

thank you, i appreciate the kind words. we sell all sorts of kits and we fix all the problems so the customer isn't left with balance problems, clearance issues, etc.
i've redone a bunch of supposedly checked and balanced kits and so far they all needed work to make them right. i've seen all sorts of issues, like out of round rods, pins that don't fit the rod small end, balance that's not even close, etc. it always amazes me what some places sell as "ready to run" kits.
we see some of the results posted on this site every so often, often times with broken rods, burn't crank journals and so on. you generally get what you pay for when it comes to engine parts. often times a cheap selling price just equates to more work needing to be done for the parts to survive long term. some get lucky, some don't, unfortunately.

I used a eagle kit with eagle rods and srp pistons. The rods needed a little work on the small end but the balance was right on! They actually paid to have them fixed. I used 440 source main caps and they needed alot of work to fit but other then that it worked out real good.

When I bought my Ohio Crank stroker kit a few years ago, everything checked okay. Except the rod bearings. They were too wide, and Ohio overnighted the narrower ones. I have run this set-up for 6 years now.

It goes without saying that we should have everything checked. But I don't agree that we should expect to fix stuff. Things can get by the vendors, but I would hope that we shouldn't come to expect it. At least not of the better suppliers.

I got a 440 Source kit for a 572 the pistons was OK and the Rods had to be honed to fit the pins but OK the bearing and rings was OK the crank would run but i had it rebalanced and i would buy a kit from them again i have not run it a lot but it"s OK right now but if you get a kit get it checked are you could be sorry and good luck .

I agree-- had mine all checked out by a machinist--all he had to do was hone for the pins.

Mancini also sells that kit in an "unbalanced" form.

If the components are all a known competitive brand and price is comparable........why not buy it and have the pieces double checked and balanced by a reliable machinist??

wouldn't it be easier and probably cheaper to pick up the phone and make one call? have it delivered to your door ready to go?
