For an exhaust system, especially a muffler or resonator, to work correctly, it needs a certain air velocity. On a nearly stock compression 440, running huge exhaust leads to low exhaust velocity and drone.

The best way to eliminate drone is to speed up the exhaust flow. For those that ditched the 2 1/2" headers for 1 7/8", good idea. That's one way to do it.

I think your options are:
1) Increase compression a lot
2) Smaller headers
3) Smaller exhaust piping

Rather than running resonators, pull them out and then run a tube inside of a tube. If you are running 2.5", then run 2" inside of your 2.5" for as long as you can. I was thinking Summit Racing even sold tube in a tube but now I can't find it.

I don't think changing mufflers is going to solve this problem.
