What do you mean by later? My Dec. R.R. engine and auto trans were stamped, my Feb R.R. parts car engine and auto trans were stamped and my May R.R. engine and man. trans were stamped.

The law required VIN stampings on the engine and trans begining 1/1/68 but the managment was trying to get the program working & in place ahead of schedule to be in compliance... So most Dec cars probably are stamped but it could vary from day shift to night shift or if the guy that was trained to stamp VINs called in sick his replacement might miss a few.. Fact is that really happened through out the year...

OK, I knew it came about in 68 but didn't know when it was required by.
