That is my guess!! the problem is going back to that gear drive and having to sort thru all that again. I was ready to set my hair on fire the first time.

A cylinder pressure test might point in the correct direction. If the cam is in was early the cranking pressure will be high, top end power will be shifted to lower rpm. Thus big torque, resulting in quick 60 ft. More torque would slip the converter more tightening the rpm drop between gears.
