Depends on the year but for the most part the 3500 and 2500 are almost identical (assuming SRW). Clearance lights and overload springs....everything else is pretty much the same on third gen trucks.
as far as the camper goes, I had a 2700 lb Bigfoot 25C9.6 on my 2001 2500 and it handled it OK, but the 3500 dually was far better.....with my current 30C10.11 the dually isn't just nice, it's a necessity. Personally I'd draw the line at about 2500 lbs (empty) for a camper on a 2500....figure you'll carry 750 - 1000 lbs full of (stuff). If you are going to tow as well, don't forget the tongue weight...
