Hi all. I have a 493 shortblock that I plan to bolt 84cc edelbrock heads (out of the box) onto, along with a performer RPM intake (willing to change if needed), 950 CFM carb. The compression is 10.3:1 with the heads and .039” gasket. Small headers (1 5/8 schumachers, but I’ve seen people run 10.8 with them so I’m not considering them too bad of a handicap).
It will go into a ’67 Dart, minitubbed, automatic with 3800 stall converter, 3.91 gears.
I’m looking at solid flat tappet cams. I’d like to get something that sounds nice and lumpy at idle, and will still be torquey and have enough power to (theoretically) run ~10.6 or so in the 1/4 mile.
What approximate range of duration/lift and LSA would get me there?
Right now I’m looking at Lunati voodoo solid, but don’t know how nice it’ll sound in a 493. Yeah, I know sound aint everything, but if I can’t get on it all the time I at least want it to thump a bit.
Thanks for any input. -----------------------
Below are the specs of the Lunati voodoo.
Solid Flat Tappet. Pro Street/bracket race cam with excel- lent mid range to high end torque and horsepower. Needs 3500 RPM stall converter, headers, 11:1+ compression ratio and 4.10+ gearing. Rough idle. • Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 288/296 • Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 259/267 • Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .586/.606 • LSA/ICL: 110/106 • Valve Lash (Int/Exh): .016/.016 • RPM Range: 3000-7200 • Includes: Cam Only Part Number: 30230743 Previous Part Number: 60343
Look at Comp Cams XS290S cam or if you want a bigger grind look at there XTQ286S-8 drag race cam grind I'm a big fan of less duration, especially on street cars, with as much lift as you can run Install both of them with at least 4 degrees advance on the intake lobes
