This statement is confusing. Is it the intake or exhaust manifold you are talking about? Either way, I cannot visualize on how either intake or exhaust manifolds would interfer with the "linkage". Possibly some miss match of brackets, bellcrank and linkage could cause an interference with the exhaust manifold/head pipe flange or something. A little more info and maybe someone else will be able to answer your question.
