I too would bypass the poly bushings. Go with top quality Moog parts and get the offset UCA bushings so you can get some positive caster. If you want to spend money on upgrades, look into a set of GOOD shocks and a larger front bar from someone like Hotchkiss. I think this will give you the biggest seat of the pants improvement for the $$ that you are looking for.
The control arm plates I would get from Mancini. For $21 for the pair, it's not worth the effort to make your own.
