I'm not a tranny guy but if your just getting out of low gear at 50 mph , I would be looking for a spare motor cause your gonna have a mess of broken parts very soon. especially if your running low gears(high ratio).
It could be valve body trouble and maybe your linkage from carb is not set right but that should not leave it in 3rd. at the light.
