Don't forget B-vans. Any 318 2 barrel from 86 thru 91 should have the 302s. I have managed to hoard 4 sets of these, and I don't think I spent more than a hundred bucks on any set.

As for magnum heads, these would require special lifters due to the way the rockers are oiled vs the way the LA rockers are oiled. With the 302s, it's just: 1)buy gaskets 2)install 3)smoke tires

"special lifters" meaning any aftermarket lifter that also cross references to an AMC application, which is pretty much every aftermarket lifter.

going to 302 heads, they won't flow any better than your open chamber 318 heads. the 1/2 to 3/4 point increase in compression won't net much power improvement, maybe 2-3% max.

I'd go with junkyard magnum heads, and redrill them to LA intake angle. get junkyard 2.2L spring retainers, and then get hughes #1110 valve springs. a comp XE256 or a lunati voodoo 60401 would be a nice cam for your combo.
