Ok...I have ran head long into what may be an issue. Building a 400 and due to space issues in my 68 Dart and 2" primary headers I decided that I needed a much smaller starter. Got the final motor build ready to go in, got the clutch assembly in along with the Lakewood bellhousing and went to mount up my Powermaster starter...and it would not bolt up.
Got on the phone with both Lakewood and PowerMaster looking for an answer as to why the starter bracket would not line up with any of the holes in the bellhousing. PowerMaster sent out another starter with a fixed bracket to cure the issue. Again its a no go..
What starters are being used with this combination of a low deck,Lakewood and mini starter..
Thanks
Rick

As far as I know all mopar bolt patterns are the same, is your Lakewood new? What size flywheel { teeth } do you have? Can't see that there would be a problem with the bell housing, do you have the lakewood with the 2 starter positions?

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

A bolt goes through the top hole of the starter and a Lakewood adaptor gizmo goes through the bottom hole.

The adaptor for the lower hole has a bolt that goes through the lower ear on the block and a bolt-sized pin that goes through the lower bolt hole on the starter motor It's offset by about an inch from the lower bolt.

Make sure you use the part that holds the nose of the starter stationary too. I wires the starter gear out, so I could tighten the starter up with proper tooth engaugement. Of course the motor was out of the car and it was hard to see, but with the transmission out of the way, it was do-able.

We have a low deck 452 in our 70 RR with a Lakewood and a RobbMC starter and it bolts right up. The flywheel is a 143 tooth. There are two sets of holes on the Lakewood, for the 130- and 143 tooth flywheel.

I have been very pleased with the RobbMC starter.

Regardless, your starter should just bolt up. On our car we used just the cap piece shown in the photos someone posted (it supports the nose of the starter) and the correct bolt and that was it.

Tis a puzzle.

You know that is really dumb. I called Lakewood twice and never once did the tech guy ask or mention anything about this little gizmo. Once I get this thing mounted up and working...I will be calling Lakewood and give them an ear full . I could have used the first starter that I had instead of selling it and then buying another one.
There werent any instructions showing how to mount this...
