in the last 50 years I have tried everything from fishing to restoring cars and everything in between.Nothing else has held my interest. Great people, good times and the friendship of some very special people. Plus it's cheaper, safer and better for your health than whiskey and wild women building some neat cars and driving what you build is a strong point.

I do it for several reason's,, to take somthing that I have built with my own two hand's and see how good I can do with it,,and also to give me a escape from all the other crazy crap that is going on in the world and my life,,some drink to forget, I race to forget.

Another poster belonging in general...This is Unlawfl's part of the board, not yours.
A grizzled old track owner and I were having a discussion one day 25 years ago, and I said, "I just come out here to have fun". He smiled, and said, "Billy, if anyone came out here for any other reason...it was the wrong one!"
The thing is, everyone is a little different, so "having fun" at the track has many different meanings...some have to win, some have to make money, some have to be the fastest or most impressive machine there, some are competitive, while others are more social, I've always enjoyed the fact the Drag Racing has a place for all types, the people are just as diverse as the machinery and the ET's.
For me, some things happened at the end of the 08' season, that took much of the fun out of it, and led me to re-evaluate some of my friendships in the sport. So, I haven't been back since, just working on the cars, reloading, and waiting for that old familiar desire to return.

It was always a competitive thing for me, lately though I just like to tinker and have fun. I've wanted to drag race for as long as I can remember, always was a car freak even as a very young child. I've won a track championship but not a division one yet. Probably won't now as I may only drive for another year maybe two. My competitive drive has diminished as I've gotten older. I'll probably put my son in the car as he has the fire and the boy can drive. He has proven he can handle the car so that's where I'm leaning at the moment.

I think the few complainers are gonna kill it for the many. If you want tech only then we can't talk about race events, race results, rule changes/fees and many other race related topics. DUH. And some like to actually enjoy the fellowship of racing with others. Maybe there needs to be a "Race Tech. ONLY Forum" along with the UNLAWFL Forum to squelch the few. Me, what little racing I've done but still plan to when I get either car done, is to enjoy the unbridled HP of something "I" built with my hands. So, it's not just the competition, but a building of ones own abilities. This probably compensates for my lack of abilities in athletics as a youth. We do what we find we can do best.
