I have ran two different combos with a 4.125" stroke crank from LA Enterprises. One was an Arrington head 48 degree combo. It was 4.125 bore making 441 CID. It had about .800" lift roller cam and made around 800 HP. Sprayed 225HP plate system and ran 8.41 @162 with a 3,300 lbs car.
I took the same crank and made a 457 W8 engine. CFE R&D heads from Patterson. In other words they did not work for what they were trying to do. But, great for a big cube small block. This engine cranked some big power. Never was on a dyno but compared to my current combo that make 900 HP this engine was definately making more. I sprayed as much as 450HP Nitrous and was really happy how it ran. The engine was later bored to 4.245" making 468 CID.
I currently run a short deck with only 3.800" stroke. This one loves 9,000 RPM. But, really needs three speed or a stick to shine. Does not like the glide.

4.125 bore X 3.79 stroke. 405 inch 13.0:1 on E-85 .668 lift roller with 268 @.050 single 4 bbl to be determined.........I am leaning towards a 950 h.p. It is still in the assembly stages , but I think I am going to like it a bunch. It is an R-3 block and W-9 heads that flow pretty nice #'s in the mid lift. It will see street use , so I compromised on some aspects of the build.

Very close to my W-9 engine... but with a bigger cam and more carb

What crank did you break? What do you think was the cause? Damper? Ive seen some rev limiters in use that have to be hard on cranks too.

Started out with a stock gear ratio 727. Sent the converter back to dynamic three times. They would say they could not make any tighter but charge me around $300 everytime. I had a Tranzact VB, alluminum drum, billet output and deisel truck front planetary. Very enexpensive transmission. Switched to a glide and lost ET mostly 60 ft in the eighth mile. But made large gains in the quarter. The difference was in the conmverters. GM style converters are better. If I had ran a spacer between the tranny and engine and ran a different gear ratio in the trans I suspect the 727 could have been quicker. But, then you are spending a lot more money on the planetaries. With that kind of power the power glide worked well.
My 421 hates the glide.
