Anyone know the factory intake manifold bolt torque spec for the 5.2/5.9L magnum intake manifold (twelve 5/16 bolts)?

One source I found indicated 72 in/lb, that sounded light to me.

Thanks

It is lite, 12 ft lbs. Use the factory torque procedure to get there too. Some say you have to use the factory torque to yield bolts, I've just used SS bolts for years.

Oh yeah...5/16-18 x 2 1/4" long

Is the torque procedure different than LA intake?

Specs? Torque procedure?

I just bolt it down and go. ;>)

you torque them to 72" pounds then down to 144" pounds

which = 12 foot pounds

on the stock barrel/keg intakes

IIRC it starts in the middle and works its way out sorta like an LA intake

I do know that it is ez to have coolant leak into the oil if over torqued

good luck

That was my reason for asking. If you look at the vertical bolt design there is potential to put huge lifting forces on the heads (compromising head seal). You are essentialy driving a wedge between both heads. As the aluminum intake heats up those forces increase. I just did a SB with magnum heads and had an incorrect torque spec (35 ftlb), I think this could be the reason why there is some coolant weeping on one head. An intake re-install with head re-torque will be needed.

Also a quick note for anyone looking at buying a magnum intake, the chinese air gap intake used on this motor was not machined correctly on the intake surfaces (wrong angle) or the valley end seal surfaces (interfered with block). This was the first time I actually used one and not sure I will again.

This is for the Magnum M1 intake, specs are same for stock manifold.

Yes!

I'll add....

Anyone ever seen a 5.2 or 5.9 block split in half, right down the middle?
I've seen three.

Anyone ever seen a 5.0 or 302 block split in half, right down the middle?
I've seen like two dozen.

Same intake bolt setup.
Coincidence? Nope, don't think so.

The wedge tries to force the heads apart, overtorque it and then run it real hard + maybe add a little boost, and it makes one hell of a mess....
They're all great engines in their own right, but that bolt arrangement is not the hot setup...
