I have always thought my car would run faster with a cowl hood, that big scoop shovel has to slow a car down, it's like driving with your door wide open. If you have a opening as big as a cowl, air will find it's way to the carb.
it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

I have tried acouple different hood scoops also..a hemi and six pack and they dont work either..I love the cowl..if I redo the hood it will be a 6 inch that goes to the windshield..I need to put a good aero scoop on it,but hate to deface the car with it..I run such a big cfm carb..it needs all the airflow it can get.. Been running the carb out the scoop hole and running a big aircleaner on it..just for testing mode purposes..

Ever try anything like the PS trucks had? Cowl hoods with a front facing airpan. Aerodynamic benefit of the cowl and just redirect air that would hit the front of vehicle anyway. I like the looks of the cowl, however I'm just not subscribing to the "air off the windshield" lore. My 6" cowl goes back to an inch or so of the windhield and has a 2pc forward facing pan setup. Still sorting out electrical issues and have not had it over 140 yet, which is where I expect it to start making a difference.
Good Luck

I've wanted to test my scoop VS a cowl in cars that run the same speed... just putting a inches of water gauge with a pick up tube in the cowl and scoop... at least I know that if the front facing scoop is high enough to be in the air flow it applies pressure at speed where the six pack type arent high enough and may actually hurt performance

It has to catch alot of air like putting a chute on the front of the car and pushing against it.Looks like most on here that have a cowl are 140 or better with no complaints of a loss.

It may be a like a chute BUT if its in the air flow its pressurizing the carb(cheap supercharger)

Yeah but at what point does the drag on the car outweigh the forced air ? and would it not be better to be more aerodynamic and force the air another way like with a tube to the carb like the Fords use?

I've always wondered how some of you see around the tall scoops sitting at the tree? I have a 6" cowl hood and the way I sit in my car any lower I would have to put a wedge under the seat to see the tree. I've watched some of the ProStock and ProMod racers when in the left lane stretching their necks to see the lights. Just some thoughts. PoisonDart post some photos with the wheels up. You are loosing et with all the air under the car. LOL
