Right there is where I'd start. The fan should be half in and half out of the back edge of the shroud. The shroud and fan combo is what keeps you cool at idle, at cruise there is enough air moving through the rad to run normal. As Chally 1 said advance your initial to get your idle down. You could be getting off the idle circuit and pulling some advance at that idle and that's what is making your timing jump around. As stated some movement is normal, mine bounces around about 2*.
How did you determine the clutch fan is working properly?

I think you can get a factory shroud from the dealer still for an E-body.

Definitly needs a shroud also. Can't have too many shrouds. I bought a couple last time I was at the dealer about 5 years ago. Keeping one new one for a spare. They had plenty back then. Hope this helps your buddy.
Putting in a new dist isn't gonna help until you get the timing straightened out. Also you don't need a MSD, factorty ignition does just fine for me.
I drive my cars alot.

Yea I know, it was pretty stupid. She in no way was gonna let do it while she was in the car and I kept saying I wasn't gonna do it. But when I got out there by myself it just kinda happened?

Now what's your opinion guys ?
Thanks !
I think the MSD dist has a reputation for rusting really bad inside, keep a eye on it.
Like I said, it's lean, jet it up so it won't "fall on it's face"
Timing needs to be where we"re all telling you.
I'm not familer with a Accel dist, can't be much different than stock. You have to shorten the slots in the advance plate to limit advance. Does that sound right to you? (me not knowing about accel dist)
Springs don't adjust advance in dist, don't worry about springs at this time. Worry about timing not springs. The length of the slots adjust the total timing.
Nothing wrong with a aluiminum radiator, it just needs a shroud to go with that clutch fan which is the hot setup. imo lol

is that 18 initial @800 rpm? then as said above shorten the slots to get 35 total. (possibly) need to richen the carb but I'd start on the airflow prob.
