Well I can barely lift them without a converter so I'd say an 8 inch converter too much!!!

I think they are 150 to 160 without the converter so pushing 200 with one!

Last week i put one on the scale to compare it to a 4 speed 46re

A sb 727 fresh build no fluid weighs 128 without the converter.

4 speed 46re that i pulled from the truck, and drained the fluid.Weighs 213 with converter

When I was young a LONG time ago I used to put a cast iron 3-speed or a 4 speed Muncie on my chest and bench press it into the bell housing. Now I can barely move them. That is why I have Kevin

Dam I get weaker every year. I put a big heavy deep B&M aluminum pan on mine this year and it was just about the tipping point on my back and knees going out! LOL!!!

When I was a kid I use to use either jacks or ropes around the torsion bars to get the tranny in.

At age 45+ its much easier/faster to just roll the 150# tranny on my stomach and manipulate it in with my knees/feet/arms etc. The rear crossmember helps. alot

Screw the jacks, that takes some prior manipulation too. By the time I get it manipulated onto the Jacks, I can have it installed allready. Screw that. mike

I would guess that stock conv would weigh about 55 lbs
on the 46re

I can relate to all that.
I used to bench press a Ford top loader 4-speed every weekend when I was 19. I had a close ratio trans and 4.11 gears (9" rear) for the weekend, and a wide ratio trans and 3.23 gears for during the week. Friday after work I washed the car, changed the rear pumpkin, and swapped the transmissions.

Then I bought a Chrysler and the first time I put that big 4-speed manual on my chest I almost cried for help.
