Hi All,
Seems like I'm on a role for a wheel/tire thread on each forum!
In a heavy car (67 Belvedere), how much traction will I be giving up with 255/60/15 vs 275/60/15?
The Mickey Thompson site says that theres 0.5" difference in tread width (although measured on different size rims).
255s should fit without too much of an issue, whereas opinion is mixed on whether the 275s will fit without rolling the inner lip.
cheers!

10.3 vs 10.82 How much motor you got? I ran 275/60/15's on 67 GTX and Coronet. i did roll the wheel lip up but the rub more up in the 1/4 if anything. I'd think if you had say a 15x8 w/ 5-5.5" of backspace the 275's would fit w/ ease. The 255 are 27.4" tall vs the 275 at 27.99"
the 255 looks ok on 67's but it looks short on 68-up B-bodys.

A taller tire will also give you a bigger footprint, even if the width is the same.

I'llhave to get out and try to measure up the wheel well. I do seem to recall that there was a lot of room behind the wheel where I could go for a deeper backspace.
Anyone here run something similar on a 67 B-body?

My issue is that I live in Oz, so with shipping costs/time etc, I can only afford to do this once, so I need to get it right the first time.

Cheers!

Hi jason, I have 275/60/15 street radials on 8'' weld prostars with 4.5'' backspace.

Your welcome to measure them on your car, if you don't mind a drive to the northside. Rob.

Post more about your combination, and how fast you plan on going. B-Body's stick pretty good.

Good point.
Here's the combo (cut and paste from an old thread):
"A .030 over 440 block with Indy aluminium main caps and a Callies 4.25" crank, Oliver billet rods and Diamond pistons, giving a compression ratio of 10.4:1. On top is a pair of E'brock heads with some minor work, Indy rockers, and a 0.587/0.593 287/294 cam, under an M1 intake and 1050 Dominator. Downstream is a Mopar 175K converter and a 3.55 rear end, and 'huge' 205/70/14 tires."

That combo (including those tires!) has taken me 12.54 @ 114.
Low to mid-11s would be nice. I know it needs a whole lot more than just tires, but the tires are a starting point.

Cheers!

Sounds like a strong combo, somewhat suprised you're only seeing 114mph. But, 114 still shows enough horsepower to get pretty deep into the 11's.

You don't mention anything about the rear suspension, but even with just good stock springs, an effective set of traction bars, and a set of ET streets, A footbraked B-Body should stick at that power level.

Ultimately, It's your call. I sorta think that either tire will make that combo go. I too have a 67 Satellite, that runs about what you are now, and have the same dilemma (why I've been following your thread). I'm going with 255's, because my car is pretty nice street car and I don't want to deal with rubbing issues. If it was a strip only car, I'd be more willing to squeeze the 275's in, but thats me. Please keep us posted on what you find, either way.

depends on the height and if youd rather take away from or add to the gear ratio
