And if so, what was your ipression with them? Fit? Finish? Weight, Etc. The price sure looks good but I never hear anyone mentioning using them. Thanks!

I run the keith black forged pistons in my stroker magnum engine...the builder did not say he had any problems with them. Mine sees some hard street miles every year and has been built for about 4-5 years now...probably have 10-15k on it..

They seem to have a decent reputation. I picked up a set for a 440 build I'm doing and think they'll do fine for my street / strip application. The valve reliefs are plenty big and the finish machining looks good.

The only thing I wasn't impressed with is that my pistons are quite a bit heavier than advertised. The spec was something like 686 + 141 for the pin and they were actually 703 + 156, IIRC. I wasn't expecting that much extra "beef" compared to the 650-ish gram Rosses my other engine uses.

I built a 440 with them a while back. Real nice looking pistons. No immediate issues with them. About 50 gram heavier than a comparable Ross or Diamond.

I got a smoking deal on them through summit. Like $299 IIRC.

FWIW, I'm almost certain these are the same as 440Source house brand.

Thanks for the replies guys! The weight was a concern, the pistons I am looking at are about 170 grams heavier than the Diamond version!

just make sure that you are comparing the pistons only and the weight of the pin is not included.

Stock pins can be shortened 1/4" on each end as w 1.09" dia there is still plenty of contact area (pressed pins of course) to have no prob. And w your drill press & dremel might be able to lighten the piston. This worked fine on a stock cast piston that was raced but they are heavy & have alot of extra material to work w whereas yours may not. Just food for thought

Yeah, that was the first thing I thought too. The KB listing for the IC837 says 709/141 for the Piston/Pin. The Diamond 52407 listing says537 grams. They are both .990 pin pistons. Just seems like a lot of difference, almost 6 1/4 ounces? Also the KB piston online listing mentions a special ring gap for the top ring? I thought that was just on the Hypereutectic pistons...

KB specs listed online seem to be a little goofy last time I checked. That note is definitely applicable to the hypers.

Seems they list the same weight for several different pistons regardless of CR and CH. I think they list a standard weight for the basic forging regardless of the finished specs.

Well the KB's are a "Stepped Dish" piston listed as 12cc? (The Diamond Piston is not stepped and yet it's still 12.5cc?) Must not be much of a step? Yet it is enough to require a bottom ring support...
