Anyone running this cam, particulalry in a mild stroker?

Part #23-712-9
286/294, 236/242 at 0.050"
0.363"/0.361" at the lobe

Just debating between going this route or going with a mechanical flat tappet...something about that just seems right?! I have to investigate my options though, so...

I'd probably be looking at this roller or something along these lines, maybe a tad smaller (280 for example).

I'm interested in performance (power, et, etc), streetability, and your overall satisfaction with the cam.

In my fictitious scenario we are talking about a 493-500" RB, good flowing Eddy heads, and components to match the cam. I have the crank, rods, and heads ready to go...the cam and pistons will be matched once something is selected.

Let me know if you have this cam, had this cam, or have any direct first-hand knowledge of how it performed in a similar set-up.

Thanks in advance!

I used the 292HR which is the next size bigger in a recent article for PHR. The 292 was nice and smooth in my 505 with the Edelbrock dual carb setup. I never drove it on the street (dyno time only) but my guess is that it would've been a really sweet combo.

The article is in the tech archives, should be the top one on the list.

Has anyone else run the cam?

I have that Cam on a 410 stroker & love it but it is a bit noisy (valvetrain).

There is plenty of vaccum at idle and can idle as low as 650-700. I have it at 800-850 on park and 750 in Drive, this give me betwee 7-10 inch of vaccum. Power brakes are working fine.

With your additionnal cubes it should run even smoother.

Tell me more about your concerns? What gear & torque are you planning to use?

I'm running a mechanical flat tappet with similar specs on a 496. The cam I'm running is a MM lobe with 243 duration, 108 LSA, .55 lift at the valve (1.5 rocker). The engine has pocket ported Ed heads, quench and 10.2 CR. I guess MM lobe FT's are considered extreme on the street but mine's done fine for 7000 miles. Periodic lash checks require very little adustment.

I am very pleased... OK idle at 850-900 with around 12" vacuum, fantastic mid range and decent top end, well matched to the capabilities of the Ed head. Any longer duration/high overlap/tight LSA cam is going to make some fumes when idling. Mine does. 20 degrees initial timing and careful AF adjustment helps minimize this.

I'm guessing LSA is a little wider on the Comp you are looking at which should make the idle smoother and cleaner, reduce mid range a bit and give it a little more top end. You shouldn't need crazy spring pressures with that cam so it can live on the street.

If you went one step up in duration (low-mid 240's @.050) I don't think it would hurt streetability much and you would gain power... depends on the rest of your combo and goals.
