I ran my Volare with a stock 98 318 with airgap intake,750 vac carb, headers, 3000 stall, 727 and 4.10 gear a couple weeks ago and it was running 14.4@ 94 mph.
I did only a cam and valve spring change and went back. I put the Comp XR265 in it. its .506/.506 216/224 @.050 and 265/273 adv duration.
Car ran some 13.5's @ 102.5 mph. Still running 2.0 60' so I know there is more in it. I did not play with it as I was racing. I lost 4th round with a breakout
Was a real good gain.

8mph and almost 1 second increase from a cam change? Very nice How much does you car weigh?

Any cam change is an upgrade from the stock Magnum cams. They barely bump the valves off their seat. Is the new cam a roller too? Killer improvement Glen. Any modifications to the heads to run the higher lift? Few can claim a one second improvement from one mod.

The comp XR cams are hydraulic roller cams.
I don't know what springs he used but the GM V6 springs can handle that with no mods to the heads. I think huges also sells springs that will work as well as mopar performance.

Car is around 3400lbs.
I used hughes 1110 springs with their retainers. I had .045 clearance to the valve seal at full lift. Was around .550 with valve shut.
My cam selection was based mostly on not taking the heads off.
Once I get the 60' sorted out I expect low 13's and better air will help as well.

good results! who says you need a big cam to go fast? my junk is similar to yours, but in a heavier 5th ave, with 3.55's and an A500 (low first gear). my cam is a reground stocker, it's 208@.050and .506" lift......both our cams are pretty aggressive, lobe wise. mine is 259@.006" lift, 208@.050, and 127@.2" with .318" lobe lift....yours, according to the comp lobe catalog (looks to be lobe #3303) is 265@.006", 216@.050, and 136"@.200" with the same lobe lift. for comparison to a flat tappet hydraulic, a comp XE262 is 262@.006, 218@.050, 130@.200", with .308" lobe lift, while an XE268 is 268@.006", 224@.050, and 137@.200" with .318" lobe lift. could you snap a pic of the retainers next time you have the valve cover off?

The retainer is just a plain steel retainer for the 8mm valve stem and a single spring. I will be in the valve covers at some point and will snap a pic. An interesting thing I noticed is what happened to the cylinder pressure. I had 180 before the swap and 155 after. This engine had 270 000km on it before I did rings and bearings. It really should have gotten a bore and new pistons as the cylinders are not round anymore. I'm sure if it was healthier and with a zero deck piston I could likely hit high 12's. I had a big block in this car that was slower

I was just wondering if the retainer had any dish or was a flat steel retainer...did you measure what your installed height was with their retainers? IIRC mine, the 2.2L retainers with no valve job done to the head was ~1.60"...I purposely had the seats sunk a skoash to get 1.63" IH.
my regrind is in that same range, compression check of 155-160 or so.
in hind sight, I kinda wish I woulda decked the block .040. mine was .055" in the hole, which currently yields 9:1 comp even. had I decked it .040, I'd have about 10:1 with .043" quench (using the thin Mr. gasket head gaskets)....
one thing I forgot to do on mine was replace the freeze plugs on the block, and now one is leaking
that's awesome to see a nearly stock 'teen outmuscle a big block!

They are a flat retainer. I did not measure installed height, the heads do have a valve job. I also used the head gasket that came in the gasket set from chrysler and was around .060 thick. We were laughing when I measured it. I have no idea how much valve to piston clearance it has, would love to set quench at .040.
