I have a rebuilt 440 that is running hot and it has electric dual fans that pulls 2500 cfm. Does anyone know how much CFM the factory fans pull???

The motor has about 500HP and 550 T and is bored 40 over.

Thanks

what's the timing set at? have you opened the rad to remove any air pockets? upper and lower hoses staying open? Some of the cheap ones will collapse and restrict water flow. Also what H2O pump? Some have had issues w/ the 440 Source pump.

I retarded the timing some and I don't have the right type light to tell and I opened the rad and let it run while adding some water to make sure no pockets. The hoses are not collaping and a high flow pump not sure as to which one. I just got the car last friday night.

Sometimes the dual electrics can't get it done and need to pull through the entire core of rad.

getting a few people telling me to go back to the factory stuff that the electric fans just can't cool as well. That why I was wondering what cfm they pulled.

If you have it..put it back on and give it a try. Any reason you went w/ the electric?

I don't have the stuff to go back to factory. I bought the car with the electric fans on it. The guy I bought it from installed new motor and got tired of trying to work out the bugs. It had no power brakes and was missing bad when I got it. I replace the valve in the brake boost since it was bad and I know have brakes and replace the boots on the plugs that burnt from being to close to the headers.

Those fans will never cool that motor, not even with a shroud which you also need. Stock is best when it comes to cooling old Mopars.

Save your money. Check e-bay if you think you need a Rad. I'd get a good fan and shroud 1st. You can probably find nice used items in the parts section here.

My 498 ran hot in traffic/hot days...cool down the road...(alum rad) final fix was shroud,7 blade steel clutch fan..car runs nice and cool in traffic....champion alum radiator...2 one inch rows...cheap price but does the same job a 700 alum rad does. Can't say enough good things about it

Can you define what temperature 'hot' means to you? To some people it's 180*. To others it's 215*.

If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

Do you have an overflow bottle?
If so are there bubbles comming out of the overflow hose in the overflow container?
I have seen bad head gaskets leak compression into the water jacket. That will always cause an overheat situation. Worse yet, instead of a bad head gasket there maybe a crack somewhere that allows compression to go into the water jacket. Don't assume that you'll see white smoke out of the exhaust. Coolant may not be able to get into the combustion chamber.

The stock setup moves a lot of air and works well. First priority is a clutch fan and shroud. You may score one at a JY or you can find it at Mancini. Add a new radiator only if needed.

The MP clutch fan kit from Mancini includes a 5 blade fan. It has low drag and works in many situations but some setups require a more aggressive fan. Bouchillon sells a 6 blade or you can find a 7 blade at a JY. I have one from a '78 Cordoba... which I didn't need as the 5 blade was enough.
