This is a roller cam out of a '96 360/5.9l block. The PO had taken the intake and heads off, and left them off, letting the cylinders get some light rust, and the cam to get some heavier rust. The top picture is the before shot. The bottom picture is after a few minutes with some 600 grit and some lube. The lobe left of center has rust on the base circle. Center lobe is on the lobe itself. It looks to me like some more work and some polishing and it'd be good as new If nothing else, is this cam at least good enough for a regrind? It would eventually be going into a work truck 408. I'll be at a junkyard several hours away this weekend and can pull another cam if this one is junk. The local yard doesn't have anything newer than about '88

If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

Good for a re-grind.
Used roller cams are cheap, I have been offered a few for as little as $20 a pop. The 5.9 has the smallest of the factory rollers, generally speaking no one wants them.
This is true, I could only get so much from my 360 roller on the re-grind. Depending on how deep that rust is, i would'nt bother with that cam if it were me, find one in better shape .

if you do look for another stock one to re-grind, grab one from an '85-89 5th ave. they have a deeper hardened layer, are .390" lobes (can usually get more lift/duration out of a regrind), 112LSA w/108 ICL, and have the long snout for a conventional fuel pump.
