'68 RR, 383, MSD Ignition, TTI Headers, stock intake.

The car can sit for weeks and start like a champ with a few pumps of the gas peddle before starting. However, I can't seem to figure out how to start it cleanly after going somewhere and the car sitting for a bit. For example, I went to a car show last week and it sat for 1.5 hours. When I tried starting it to go home I had trouble. If it sits for just 20 minutes I don't have to pump it at all.

What is the general rule of thumb here?

pull the coil wire out of the dist & hold it 1/4" from a metal ground while someone turns the key & see if you have spark for starters

live every 24 hour block of time like it's your last day on earth

My cuda fires on the first crank when it's cold, once it's warm it can be a pain to start. The trick for mine when it's warm is to hold WOT, if I do that, it starts right up with a nice rev and always catches some attention, just let off the gas quick so you dont look like an idiot hitting 6k

Timing to far advanced?
Can cause hard starts when warmed up.

Hot start problems these days can be caused many times by our fine easy boil fuel.

I'm pretty sure the spark is fine and 2 years ago the timing was advanced to increase power a little (got 10 hp and tq from doing that).

Thanks, guys. I'll try the WOT suggestion without looking stupid. Hilarious!

Today's lovely fuel evaporates and fills the area under the air cleaner. Needs a few cranks to get some clean air in before it'll go bang.

If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.
