.... it has been ages since I have done this ...and the last time I did-it ...it was a PITA with the one I had(it was red in-color). That was lost-in-the-move ..... so I beeez needin' one ... I have 3 motors to do within the next 45 days or so ..... I don't think that an electric one is in-the-budget .... but if it is a time-saver and more accurate - maybe I can see that through... Give me your

We sell a tool for that: hand-operated, lifetime guarantee on its diamond grinding disk. www.area51groupllc.com, also on Ebay as seller topside340. We sell 'em to Summit & Jeg's. We also have valve spring testers, height mics, leakdown testers, oil filter cutters, rod-bolt stretch indicators, and rearend setup tools.

That's about all I am willing to spend on filing rings, and really it's all you have to spend. Simple thing you can do instead of paying big for someone else to do it.

No it's just too light duty and chessey. Motor will bog down if you get in hurry and it's easy to file em outta square. At least with tool steel rings. I haven't used it much with moly rings that I can think of.

I have used the Speed Pro hand operated ring filer(like the Summit one) for years, and then I bought the Proform electric filer I have messed up several moly rings by not taking my time to make sure they where cut square Once I got the hang of it it is way better Don't forget the top moly ring is way harder than the second cast iron ring found in most H.P. file to fit ring sets, the second ring needs a lot less time against the grinding wheel The electric ring filer makes the time seem as twicre to three times faster than using the hand crank Speed Pro filer and nine times faster than usig a file

I prefer to just take a chisel and just pinch off the ring until it will fit in the bore. Who gives a crap about gap. Then grind nothes in the top ring for gas ports.
Just kidding.........
I have a hand crank one. Problem was the hard rings I was forced to run in my ole nitrous motor eat the wheel up. Plus the ring was 4.255" and I was cutting for a .040" gap in a 4.245" bore. Found a cut off wheel to get it close then file to perfection.
I have noticed people really concerned about how square the cut is and even throughing rings they screwed up away. But, will stick a ring they didn't debur in a new piston and trash the ring groove.
Hint... It is more important how well the top ring seals against the bottom of the groove and second seals against the top of it's groove than how perfect you gap the ring. Have seen some hard core guys order the piston with grooves .0005 narrower and then sand the ring's surface down for the desired fit. This idea was around long before the diamond finish deal from Total Seal.
