I know this is going to sound stoopid, but can you re-hone an unused "fresh" hone? As in, if the bore & hone work done by the "old" shop who machined my 448 short block doesn't compare favorably to the work being done to my 452 block by a "new" shop, would it be feasible to have the "new" shop re-do the other place's hone before I bother assembling the engine?
Yeah, I know... I'm
Its a new hone job... run it

I honed mine by hand with a 320 grit Flex-hone strictly for finish. Change in bore size was practically immeasurable with .0001" bore gauge.
Yep , have to be on it all day & some to remove any material from cylinder wall when using a dingle berry (flex hone), these give a real good finish depending how fast you spin the drill along with how quick you pull it in & out , gotta get a real fine balance with these.

Brad, do you have pictures of the hone job you want redone?
I'll have to dig up the ol' digi-cam.

what exactly is wrong with it?
Uhhhh... probably nothing... other than it's mine and I'm second-guessing the work done because of a couple of other things about the block that have me thinking "" about how much to trust the work.
