I'm working on a 69 GTX the feed fuel line that runs along the unibody looks like 3/8 but the pump looks to be 5/16.I know the orginal pump had a threaded fitting, this aftermarket one just has the nipples on it.Whats a guy to do??
Thanks Joe

Not necessarily a fuel filter but a vapor seperator that has a screen in it.....make sure your car also has the 1/4" return line....

Bill Allphin has them

It's a dry heat
ps- 1969 440 cars SHOULD be a 5/16" main line and fuel pump inlet + outlet, BUT with a 3/8" sender at the tank and with a 1/4" return line.

3/8" main lines in 1969 SHOULD be Hemi only.

I've owned 4 1969 GTX's and none were 3/8" main line.

again, I'm not saying all were 5/16" main as I know of a few that are supposed original 440 cars with 3/8" main lines

My 69 GTX and 69 R/T both 4 speed cars if it matters had 3/8 lines. The R/T had the original lines in it till I touched it.
Also your fuel pump should look like this:

The pump shown in the above photo is not Resto correct for a 440, depending on the pt# it may be correct for a Hemi... That said it is a better design pump than the correct piece & is what I prefer to run..

The pump in this photo is correct but the teflon tape is not...

RJS's pump looks the same as yours just painted? The fuel pumps were painted on the engine...but maybe not quite as nicely as his. His spring clip for the vapor return line is correct except I've seen them in black. I agree with Bill that 1969 440-4 and 440-6 all came with 5/16" lines. However, there is nothing wrong with going to the 3/8" Hemi line on a
440...and swearing it's OE.

RJS posted while I was working on my post & got side tracked.. My comment about a hemi style pump was refering to the post by 6T9_CHARGER_RT ... And painted is correct... Also I agree about the 5/16 vs 3/8 fuel line...

Me again,I'm not 100% positive if the car had 3/8 from the factory,I thought it did,but I'm not positive.I replaced them with a set from fine lines,so it is 3/8 right now.I did a search on here and got the correct part number for a carter pump with the threaded end that will work with the 3/8 line.So did all the cars have the vapor canister?
Thanks for the replys
Joe

1969 440 and Hemi cars had 3/8" lines. I believe the confusion is when we speak 69 440-6 cars because they started life as 383 cars and got 5/16" lines.

1969 440 cars were designed to have 5/16" fuel lines and 1/4" vapor return for original equipment. Any that came through with 3/8" were a mistake and do not meet the OE specifications. Unless you are the original owner of an unrestored car, you can't assume that it is original. Even if you have 440 cars or heard (this is called heresay) of others with 3/8" lines, based on the input you are getting here, I would not draw a conclusion that all 440's came with 3/8" lines. 5/16" is correct for 440's...honest!

I owned and stripped out/junked quite a few 440 cars back in the day and all I had were 5/16" main line.
