Russ,
I would redo what you have for now while on the look out for a org unrestored wheel that would be right at home on that car.

If it's a survivor don't you do nothing?

Why? That's not normal wear, looks like something got on the wheel. A redone wheel or a wheel change won't change the survivor status.

That looks like a "smooth" '68 or '69 steering wheel that's been painted green, not the "pebble-grain" '70 version. Which I don't know if anyone could "restore" a pebble-grain wheel. Do you have a b'cast for the car? Maybe it lost a MINT woodgrain wheel somewhere along the way?

BE & A has a reproduction green '70 wheel, an alternative while you look for a MINT original.

It's a Dec,12 1969 built car and it's smooth on the "ring"area and has a"grain" finish on the spokes under the horn ring, does that sound right or is it just worn on the ring???

Replace it with another one. No harm done.

You won't find a correctly restored pebble grain finish and finding a perfect original unworn wheel would be even harder. Buy a new green one from BEA Parts, dull it down slightly with very fine (0000) steel wool so it has just a little worn look, clean up your spoke cover with some Super Clean (purple stuff) and a stiff tooth brush, bolt it on and go...Now you have a survivor looking wheel.

I stay busy enough with the woodgrain style wheels which are what I like doing the best. I would not attempt to do the pebble grain finish if it's already worn off as most of them are besides you can buy them new from BEA Parts cheaper than what you could have any reputable restoration shop restore it.

My

This is not what you want to hear but..

Save the horn ring, ditch the wheel.
For the time and effort to try and repair/refinish that one, you could buy
the repro 70 and be done with it.

You can then redye both with vinyl dye from
JustDashes and only experts will know the difference.

If they make a repro 69 wheel,
(regardless of the color) you could get that one.
and then redye with the horn ring.

Other options: (not what you want to hear either)
wrap it leather... and redye the horn ring.
You could use Black or Dark Green...

I know, I know, not an option from the factory
but...You can actually make them look really nice that way... or at least until you find an original...

Best of luck to you...
those steering wheels are frustrating.
Most are truly pieces which did NOT stand the test of time!
