Hey Guys Ive seen a few Homemade Distributors with a Chrysler base and a GM HEI top and cap, but never talked to the people that have them. Im wanting to run one on my mud bog truck, Basicly cause the GM Ignition is better against moisture and you can get a crapload of modules from a junkyard for cheap and also it would be nice to also have everything in one place not all over the firewall to get wet. So Does anyone know how this is done or is there a website somewhere? Ive searched on the net come iup with nothing.

I saw the ones where they run GM Ignition Modules with Mopar Distributor but still need to run a remote coil, I may go that route if I cant figure out how to do it this way. And before you say Buy a DUI... IM Poor! Thanks

Sounds like a "Davis Unified Ignition (DUI)".

Look here:

Nothing wrong with the setup. It works with either E core , or coil with ballast , or without. Depending which coil you use you may need to ground the distributor body with a wire from a vac cannister screw. Can mount module anywhere. When cripping connections solder afterwards for the lasting effect.

Best cheapest HEI ever.

Get a FBO re curve kit.

Why not buy lasting high performance factory products common anywhere.

on one of the links...

this shows how to wire it

Yea I already saw these, Thats prob the way I will go that way I can reuse my good wires and cap. But the hei setup I saw looked like a mopar base and probably shaft with an HEI Top and cap/coil etc. and it was home built not a DUI or anything..

They sell them on ebay for like 60-70 bucks with cap, coil and everything ready to run on a billet body like an MSD. I had the same concern wanting to keep everything in the distributor with nothing on the wall. Does the trick!

So if someone on ebay has them then you'd think a large legitimate (for lack of a better term) vendor would have them. What brand are the parts ??

It is a 69 340 manual trans dual point with electronic conversion and runs a GM HEI module tucked away inside the interior and uses a stock-style coil.

I bought one off e-bay way back for my 273. It worked and it didn't seem all bad. My only concern was that no matter what cap i got for the distributor, they never sat very snug. I had to bend the clips to make it hold tighter, but still the cap can be tweak 5 degrees either way. I am going with the petronix conversion for my 360.

The ones on e-bay work, just not all that great. I've seen some of the home built and it all depends what tools you have to make it and how much time.

Ford had a big rubber cover for the Dist. too. If you are going to throw mud everywhere, use what you can to keep off the hook!
