Not to throw salt in the wound here but I just finished a semester of Automotive Transmission Rebuilding at a local community college. In the process, I rebuilt a SB 727. It is worth every penny spent to learn how to do your own trans. Most aftermarket pieces go in w/o machining. There's no VooDoo to it, just applied mechanical and hydraulic applications. No rocket science. Cleanliness and attention to detail, like engine building, is all it takes.

I'd rather pull my own failed trans out of my car than another guys.

And all said and done, the class was so poorly structured and ran that the only gain over going to the school rather than my garage was there was less distraction and it allowed me a dedicated time to do it each week.

Get Carl Munroes book and lock yourself in the garage for a few evenings.

Well I was able to get the trans put back in yesterday, had a few problems, first was that I made a bracket to hold the kickdown lever all the way back, when I shifted from 1st to 2nd it would hit 2nd and lock up on the jackstands but if you shifted to 3rd it was fine.I un hooked my bracket and let the lever go forward and it worked fine. I still have not been able to take it for a drive because of this rain. This is the pos tf-3 kit in the trans.I also got the new Prosystems carb bolted on and this thing sounds so crisp now.I just wanted to give you all a update on my tranny woes.

Never judge a TF's performance when on jackstands.

I've never personally used a TF-3 but I've installed a few, I reverse the TP parts internally to do the same thing as tying the lever full back. They work OK.

The TF-3 will never work as good as a real MVB because the TF-3 still uses the automatic valving whereas the real MVB routes the fluid direct from the manual valve.
