Has anyone else had problems with repro engine belts? I just threw off my Alt belt after a high RPM joy ride. I KNOW I had it tight because I HAD to get it VERY tight to stop it from squealing. This is the 2nd car I've had where this happened with a new repro belt. I'm assuming these must like to stretch and need to be checked daily.
Yep:
They are terrible. Especially bad on stroker engines that have a lot of grunt.
But they work great for getting on and off the trailer.

I actually bought my belts (1970 Challenger 440 Alternator/ Power steer belt) from good 'ol Mother Mopar! They are STILL available & say MOPAR on them. Just not "incused" like the old syle belts. My

I looked into carring these belts. So I bought a set for my own car.As a test trial. I had nothing but squeeking , squeeling and they wouldn't stay tight. I have one customer whom in order to get his to stop squeeling he burnt an alternator bearing up it was so tight.
I use the Mopar brand belts (supplied by goodyear btw) and not worry about 'someone elses approval - or points'
If someone needs the info, I have an old Mopar brand belt/hose guide to look them up if needed
Yep, Bill you nailed it. I did the same thing. They at least say Mopar even though they're not "correct".
If memory serves me correctly, most of the OE belts were 11/32" in width. I had a hard time at the local parts store finding one a decent length that would work, so I got a 10/32" and used it on one of my cars. It was a closer length to the original and fit in the groves better. I think it might have been a smog pump belt or something. Anyway, several high rpm runs later and it hasn't been thrown. Just a thought for you guys like me that love WOT !

I picked up a new Gates belt, but I don't like the "cogged" teeth on it. Does any other company make one w/o the teeth? Mopar brand maybe? Thanks
i think i got dayco belts, i said in an earlier post that it was gates but i was wrong. i'll have to check to be sure. that was one of my requirements, no "cogged" teeth.

I also burnt up an alternator making the repro belt to tight. I ended up getting a different back on my original alternator when it was redone and lost my numbers. A repro belt is not even that good for pulling on and off the trailer. You can't even rev it a little bit sitting still. I have had no problem with the Mopar belts. They may now be getting harder to find from your dealer?
