I've got a '68 Sweptline with a '68 C-body drive line. It is a 440 engine that I've rebuilt (with much help) and is running great. The rubber isolators for the big block are the same as for the /6 and they are not very strong. I actually have the engine chained down to keep it from breaking the isolators (again).

Someone before me installed a '68 c-body radiator from a 440 powered car. It is probably from the same car that donated the drive line.

To help keep it cool I installed a bigger fan that was on a clutch rather than the smaller fan that was direct drive. I don't know where this thing came from since it was in a box of parts when I got it with another project.

The problem I have is that on warm days when the engine is good and heat soaked and I get caught in some terrible Atlanta traffic the engine temperature starts to rise. I thought the best way to resolve this would be to get a fan shroud. After much searching I found a shroud (thanks Moparts!) but the fan is nearly 19" wide and so is the hole in the shroud for the fan. In short, the fan will hit the shroud.

What other fans are out there? Is there an 18" fan? Does a 7 blade fan really cool better than a 5 blade fan? What vehicle would make a good donor that I might find in the JY?

That fan is no good because it has two broken blades. At least thar's what I see from the photo. All the blades should be the same.

I have no idea what that fan is but you want part number 2863215 . It's 18 inches 7 blade.

I dont see the blades broken

they are curved and not in the pic cause the angle of camera

they flex out flat at speed

IMHO,temps creeping up like that can be normal,if the rad is not puking water and boiling over, its not over heating

a recover system is for this reason, the collent expands when hot

feel the core of the rad when good and warm, feel for any cool spots in the core, this will be clog area in the tubes restricting flow

also need a good spring in the lower hose,I will most likly get flamed for that comment but..it cant hurt in summer traffic

a new replacment rad from napa has been the best thing I have done for the last 3 trucks I had

I bump it up to an 8 vane pump for non a/c sb with a 3 row rad and the 7 blade 18" fan

I run a new clutch with the spring on it,that is a thermo clutch and will use the temps to lock and unlock the fan blade

wp and correct size pullys have a lot to do with cooling also

it not good to lay the clutch part shaft down like in the pic either

something about the viscus fluid leaking out and the clutch not working properly

which you should check for side play and viscosity

that old rad has ssen better days i am sure

It hasn't puked fluid and I don't have a recovery system. I thought about it and may do it, I don't know.

Radiator is a recore. And I do have a spring in the lower hose. I don't know why you'd get flamed for that.

My clutch is a new thermo clutch but it is an AutoZone clutch. I've wondered if maybe it wasn't operating like it should.

WP is also an AuotZone pump. It is a for a '68 B-body with a 440 and AC according to the Zone. I've also wondered if maybe it wasn't exactly right. It does have more blades in it than the one I pulled out a while ago. I've thought about going with a new WP from 440Source since they have an interesting design.

The clutch came in the box flat out like this. I've never seen any fluid from it.....
