How difficult is the job of replacing a worm gear in a manual steering box? Mine is the standard 26:1 ratio, and I see that Mancini offers a 20:1 worm gear. Is this a difficult task, and would it be noticable?

TIA!!!

I had it done (so I can't tell you about difficulty) on a 70 barracuda. Manual Steering.
It was VERY noticeable--huge improvement. Heavy in parking lots though.
But why not just get a fast ratio pitman?

Mopar Muscle did a full rebuild a while back(with help) and looks to be very simple if you are familiar with taking apart gear boxes, 4 speeds, whatnot.
I thought they had to press a shaft or bearing back in(manual or electric hydraulic).

This is an article of a saginaw steering box:

Have fun.

Well, would a fast ratio pitman arm be an easier solution? If so, where can I get one?

Thanks, Pacnorthcuda. I checked the Firm Feel website, and it states that I need the 73-76 drag link. My car was orginally a /6 car, way before I bought it. How can I know if I have this drag link? Anybody have a pic so I can compare?

Not hard to do at all. Only real thing to note is that you need an inch pound torque wrench to do the adjustment. I think it takes a 12 point socet to fit on the column spline end to check that adjustment I'm talking about.

Two bolts that fit into the holes, that makes you an adjuster.

The race at the bottom of the box is the real wild card. The one I did was in good shape. I don't know what you would do if that race needed to be changed...

I want my fair share
