I have a Mallory pump in my Duster and a summit cannister filter (like the fram one) plumbed before it.

Occasionally it will just lose prime and die. Never when driving, usually when idling. The solution is odd looking but effective. I just blow into the filler neck hard and it picks up again.

I thought it might be a blocked tank vent but I verified it was open.

I'm wondering if my pump is too high in relation to the tank level.

Try to mount your pump lower and keep your tank filled.

Mine in mounted about mid level of the tank. The Mallory Tech said that this level was fine, for what ever that is worth. However, I cannot say with confidence that mine is okay as I only have several hours of run time on all the new stuff since its been together.

Also, is the Summit canister a typical paper filter element? Probably not effecting the prime at idle, but the 100 micron mesh/screen type prefilter is often recommended.

I'm going from memory, but last year, were you not questioning if the 100 Mallory was providing enought fuel at the big end of the track? If so, what did you find out?

Yes its a paper filter. I'll have to get under there and look at my setup.

My problem with losing fuel before the traps was due to me having very small needles and seats in the carb.
