The N94 hood would have been available on the 1970 cars after the hood was introduced. I do not know if the FAST guys check date codes? (They must not check thing's too close since Tom has wheel lip moldings on his T/A. ) The N94 hood would have been available for 1971 also. I am not aware of any that came factory on any 440-6 cars yet, but 340, 383 & Hemi cars are known.

Nah,
If it could have been ordered, then it's all good. There doesn't really even have to have been one made, just needs to be known that it was an available option.
Frankly, I was just really thinking about the air cleaner situation. Because it would be important that the hood be sealed to the air cleaner, I am concerned about the height and how much fabrication I would have to do to make it work.

IIRC, Dave Dudek put one on his FC7 Hemi Challenger when he found it could be ordered and ran it in FAST series. You should be able to run it Mike. I'm thinking it would use the T/A base.

I believe the B5 Blue Six Pack Challenger was run in Pure Stock Drags with a T/A hood & air cleaner. Years ago I ran a 440 Six Pack in my 1969 Hemi RR... air cleaner matched the Air Grabber hood fine. I believe the basic interfaces were always maintained if possible... XS

Hey I just thought of it. Paul Petcou runs one of those hoods on his Challenger for P/S. I'll drop him a line...

I have never seen the car again but in 1970 while visiting Mr. Norm's Grand Spalding Dodge there was one on the street in front of the dealership with a dealer plate on it. Hard to forget as it really stood out. It was Panther Pink with the flat black T/A hood, black vinyl top, black rear window louvers, black side stripes, black console pistol grip 4 speed interior. It was an awesome looking car.

Tim, there has been a story that T/A hoods were used when there was a factory shortage of Shaker hoods but that has since been proven to be a myth.

Shaker hoods weren't replaced with T/A hoods in 1970. But...
If I recall correctly, someone had said they ordered a 71 car with the N94 T/A hood & received it with an N96 Shaker hood along with a letter of apology indicating a temporary lack of T/A hoods in 71.
I suspect that is where the shaker vs. T/A hood myth started.

Being an idiot I did not take any pictues. I was too busy saying "Holy Crap" every 5 seconds. The owner, Charlie, is a super nice guy and has an amazing collection of cars. This is the only Mopar in it currently.

It's more likely that people didn't do any research to find out that the T/A hood was actually an option on non-T/As.

I first heard the "out-of-stock" Shaker story in a NHOA newsletter article in the 1980s...

The N94 Hemi challenger was owned by my father back in the 80's. The old picture is of the car I believe parked at Rio Dodge in Austin. Since youre on the topic of air cleaners...... Here is a story that I constantly blackmail my father with. Back after my father bought the car, he was in the process of restoring it back to its original condition. It had been a drag car out in west texas and had been repainted red with blue and white fishscales and ribbons with lots of metalflake and cracked clear coat on top (typical 70's paint job). The cars original engine had been sold only months after the car was new and replaced with a hotter race motor. By the time my father got the car it had no engine, the transmission was in the trunk, and it came with a ralleye hood and a T/A hood. After my father had the car repainted and began assembling it he had trouble finding the correct air cleaner to fit both the 426 Hemi and the T/A hood. He found a car magazine (purely out of luck) that had all the part numbers for the air cleaner assemblies that went on cars with the N94 hood option. He still had trouble finding the piece he needed, but he eventualy found an ad in Hemmings motor news. My father calls it "the most expensive air cleaner assembly ever". This is becuase he traded a lime green 1970 Shaker hood 4 spd Hemi 'Cuda (rolling body) for it. Yes, a 'Hemi Cuda for an air cleaner............
Hi Lee... Welcome to Moparts!
What you say is true... here is the rest of the story:
I found the Hemi `Cuda in the Houston area, but passed on it because I wanted a more complete car. I passed the info on to James J., who then bought it. Mark knew I regreted not getting the `Cuda, and called me a few years later to say he could trade James out of it if I still wanted the car... I DID!
The deal was set that I sent payment of $500 to Terry M. for the NOS aircleaner and lid which he shipped to your dad, who traded James out of the `Cuda and sent me the title paperwork... I picked the `Cuda up from James' dad's dealership on my next trip down to Texas.
The `Cuda was a rolling body, minus the Shaker hood... here are some pictures...

Funny just how things worked out for you with the Hemi T/A breather. Mccannix living half of North American away from Texas puts a for sale Ad in Hemmings Motor News. I believe he had just purchased the larger mass of Fram made parts for Chryslers. Can not remember just how many of those breathers he purchased with the load. I wonder if Fram made more than Ten of those breathers total. I would think there might of been 2 to 6 Challengers sold with T/A hoods with a hemi. and the rest of the breathers in there were ten might of been for over the counter sales or maybe for warrenty repacement.

Moparts member JRepucci had a NOS HEMI/N94 baseplate, I wonder if it is the air cleaner that ended up on "El HEMI". Mccannix, did you only have 1 HEMI/N94 air cleaner?

Anotol was one of the founders of NEHOA, I cannot say for certain but will check with a good friend who talks with Anotol regularly, but I think it was a shaker car originally. Was a nice car, 4 speed, EB5 wide front molding, etc. I bought my hemicuda from him in 95, he was selling the 71 Challenger right after I bought the cuda. Should have bought it too, but that is hindsight.

Anatols' B5 hemi Challenger was originally from Buffalo, NY where Walt D. bought it. It had a damaged door which Walt replaced and proceeded to add an NOS shaker hood, wide hood mldg pkge and an NOS Hemi shaker assembly he got from me. Walt also added louvers, spoilers. He sold the car to Anatol this way. Anatol bought another NOS TA Hemi aircleaner that I had, and bought a TA hood and equipped it this way. I almost traded for the car when Walt owned it and had added the goodies. When Anatol had the car for sale at Chryslers @ Carlilse in the 90's, in a weak moment he sold me the complete shaker assembly incuding NOS hood/trim ring right off the car for $1800.00. A board member here was with me when this went down. Anatol put a bulge hood back on it and sold the car after the show but did not let the HemiTA air cleaner go with it, selling it later. The current owner of ther air cleaner wishes to keep it.

its funny after work on a cold rainy night i drove 3 hours to make the deal on the car. earlier in the day he pulled it out of his garage and wrecked the rear quarter panel running over a bicycle. i asked for a $2000.00 discount to get the quarter fixed. he said no. said thats the price. i said we made a deal over the phone and thought it was a fair request because earlier in the week, there was no damage on the car. i walked away from it.challenger had full documentation and when i was going to purchase it.it had the TA hood on it.im positive it was coded for the n96. i wasnt too thrilled about the added rear window louvers.

No, it is not Paul's car... but it was raced one year at the Pure Stock Drags when Tem G. owned it. It is a real 440 Six Pack 4 Speed car that was purchased new from North Star Dodge in San Antonio, Texas. I owned the car for a long time and sold it to a friend who later sold it to Tem who restored it. It was a Rallye hood car...
The picture you posted was taken at a Sonic car show, and here is one from a local indoor show...

Terry has it all right. I looked at the blue hemi car(Anatol's) and tried to buy it. Mid 90's??. We just couldn't agree on the price. I have a copy of the broadcast here somewhere. Walt added all the extra stuff. Was a pretty nice car and looked sharp with the T/A hood. While I was pretty desperate to purchase a 71 hemi Challenger I did regret passing on it at the time. I was fortunate enough to get another shot at one and I am glad I waited for the one I have. MB

The red T/A hooded hemi Challenger is it the same Challenger that was owned by a member on Moparts and one other person that was an NHOA member. Is this the same car that was to be involved with a grudge match with a Buick.
Mccannix you had plenty a chances to buy the old Blue 1971 Hemi Challenger from Walt and Anatol. Atleast you got to buy some of the car even if I had to carry it back to your spot at Carlisle old guy.

The FE5 N94 Hemi Challenger was bought from Lee H. out of Lubbock, Texas by NHOA member Glenn H. who sold it to NHOA member Mark A. In the late 1980s Mark sold the car to someone from Florida (IIRC), and later Moparts member Patrick F. ended up with the car. I do not know anything that relates to a grudge match with a Buick...

there was a guy named Anatol out of Vineland, NJ who was selling a B5 blue 71 hemi Challenger with a TA Hood, years ago . i'm sure it was coded for N96 [/quote
The car did have the N94 air cleaner on it in 1983 or 84 when I traded the second owner of that car an NOS stock air cleaner for his N94 Hemi air cleaner. I needed it to put on top of the 65 race Hemi that I was running in my black A12 Runner. I found the air cleaner completely by coincidence at an NHOA meet in York, PA within one month after getting the Hemi running in my A12. The A12 hood opening let you see the whole top of the motor and it was fate that I found that air cleaner for my car. I showed it with the Hemi in it for about 6 years from The Nats to Englishtown, year in year out. The air cleaner made the Hemi look like right at home in the Road Runner with that A12 hood! When I found the air cleaner, Walt Downer showed up just as we were sealing the deal and tried to talk the guy out of going thru with it. The guy (from the Upstate NY area)was very straight and said a deal was a deal. He would not have traded me unless I could get an expert to interpret his fender tag to prove it was not an N94 cold air hood car. He was very happy to get the correct air cleaner for his car. Walt Downer ended up with the car before Anatole got it. Walt Downer had added a few non original things on the car including the wheel lip moldings. At one point, Downer tried to get the air cleaner back from me after I got the 440-6 back in my car. I was willing to trade him for a pair of Hemi exhaust manifolds. We made a deal over the phone. He showed up with the manifolds but he backed out because a friend of his convinced him the manifolds were worth more than the N94 air cleaner. Needless to say, I did not have any good experiences in trying to deal with Downer...I ended up selling it to a friend of Bill Drake's for $750 in the early 90's. It went on a pink E-body racing in upstate NY. Here's what it looked like in my black A12. You can see the depression in the back of the seal where the steel hood from the blue Challenger was biting into it. It might have been put on it at the factory by accident? No one knows for sure why it was on that Challenger?

I believe the B5 Blue Six Pack Challenger was run in Pure Stock Drags with a T/A hood & air cleaner.
Years ago I ran a 440 Six Pack in my 1969 Hemi RR... air cleaner matched the Air Grabber hood fine. I believe the basic interfaces were always maintained if possible...

I think the 69 440-6 carb studs were too long and would dent the 69 Rrunner steel hood. I don't think the A12 carb set and air cleaner setup would clear? If you had a 70 carb setup, the studs may have cleared?

Yes, Patrick was/is a member of this board and owns a Stage I Buick. He and/or others were trying to get a grudge match set up.

Thank you Dan for answering my Grudge Match Question. The match thing kind of went very quiet a long while back and I was just wondering if it made it the the drag strip or not. If that is the car in previous pictures, I do not think that car will run in any grudge match for a long while. Looks like it has the show car touch.

Just looking through a letter I had recieved from Anatol V. some time ago and he had another real cool Challenger. 1971 440-6 Challenger.
FC7,118 BUILD DATE E87, D32, H6X9,V1X, V6X, A36, B51, C16, C55, G11, J25, J54, M21, M26, N41, N42, N85, R35, 26, This information I got off the build sheet,it is a little hard to see but I think I got most things.
He told me this was his daily driver to and from work and around town for atleast 2 years in the eighties. I guess your driver mopar is a 1971 440-6 Challenger when you have a stable full of Hemi E and B bodies back at home in the garage waiting to be put to the test.

I have one of these air cleaners for my car, unfortunately I believe it is the 340 unit. Anybody know of any way to ID the parts or part numbers?
The HEMI N94 air cleaner may be EXPENSIVE, but if you want to talk RARE - find a single 4bbl N94 air cleaner ....... or even a picture "I dare you"!!

Didn't your brother or Galen find that air cleaner at Spring Fling in the swap section? What was the whole story behind that purchase? I think the story I heard was not completely accurate and you corrected it once for me.

OK I'll bite...maybe
I cant say for sure if this ever made it into production which I doubt, but I believe initially this was the intended design for the 4bbl N94. There was one of these, and only one, in the 'hobby shop' at Fram where they did testing. Basically a 4 bbl shaker base with the TA outer ring, same way they built a 6pak and Hemi TA base. Since so few of these 4bbl cars were built, Hamtramk likely never got their hands on it to try it on a 4bbl TA hood equipped Challenger to see if the alignment with hood closure would seal and work. The two 4bbl numbers 3577457, 3577458 fall in line with the 6 pak and Hemi numbered TA bases but we all know how part numbers in the books can be misleading. In all probability the aircleaner Dan has is likely what Chrysler decided to go with. I recall Ken Papa had one like Dan years ago at his dealership also unless it is the same one.

I tried a wide variety of factory 4BBL & 6BBL intakes and carbs on the Road Runner. The setup that I ran most often was an aluminum 6BBL intake with a trio of "Ford" 250 CFM Holleys, but I ran factory Mopar Holleys as well. I always checked clearances, so any carb stud issue would have been found before closing the hood...

I saw a 4 barrel T/A - AAR air cleaner, that looked just like that one at Carlsile, about two years ago. The seller was calling it the prototype air cleaner for what was to be the production air cleaner for the 4 barrel equipped 71 Challenger T/A. If thats the one you are discussing here. The same vendor had a complete 1969 383 Cuda engine,as you probably know the drivers side motor mount is completely different on those blocks for big block a body cars.

Ben Snobar had a 4bbl T/A air cleaner like the one pictured above at Carlisle ~5years ago. Same one? Reproduction?
The oval air cleaner will not clear the A/C compressor, so maybe the one I have is as correct as I'll get? Galen said the only other one he's seen was at Papa Dodge.
Jack, got any pics?
Ben sells them as two piece..very easy to tell. His outer ring has 7 stamped holes to fit over the seven studs that he leaves in the 4 bbl base...and includes the 7 oblong washers and nuts usd with shakers. Plus his 4 bbl base has no drain tubes as an original would have. If the one at Carlisle was that way you could spot it a mile away. One that was destined for production would have the same amount of spotwelds___ in the same location as an original TA base. Even the repro TA bases haven't got that right....yet.

The one I seen was an original peice,it looked exactly like a regular T/A-AAR sixpack air cleaner, but it was for a four barrel. It had a block off plate on it,with wingnuts. It looked like a 40 year old original peice, not something someone fabricated. If you walked from the show field at Carlsile, towards the fence at the back of the swapmeet,it was in the row at the bottom of the hill. I vend in row G,so it was at least,I/J row,or the next one.

Terry, Have you ever had the hemi lid?
Jason I only ever owned one original wide lipped oval Hemi TA lid. It was NOS painted black, stamped "Made in Canada". It came from Fram with the first Hemi TA base I got. It went as a unit with one of the bases I sold in the mid 80's. I saw one other the very same at the Mopar Nats about 20 years ago. The guy was carrying it with a real Hemi TA base. A bunch of guys, myself included tried buying both but he was more less showing the assembly off to some of the vendors.
On a side note since you couldn't get AC with a Hemi car or 6 pak E-body fresh-air, but AC was an option with a 340/383 Challenger.... it would make sense that the air cleaner that made it to Hamtramk for such a car built would be the type Dan has and not a 4bbl shaker with the TA ring spotwelded.... and likely hand built in the Fram "hobby shop". Dan's car is after all coded for both AC and N94 and as he says the TA front lip would interfere with the compressor.

Jason, the untra rare Hemi T/A wide lip lid for a T/A hood. This has got to be the rarest of all the lids that Chrysler (FRAM) ever produced. I have never seen one for sale at any event and I have walked many a mile with Mccannix at these flea markets. They can be made via some creactive metal work by using an A12-T/A six barrel lid and moving some metal around so the holes will line up on Hemi spacing on the carbs.

They can be made via some creactive metal work by using an A12-T/A six barrel lid and moving some metal around so the holes will line up on Hemi spacing on the carbs.
Kevin - Bob Langley's black 71 Hemi Challenger came with one from the factory. It was a N-96 car and it had the wide lip lid. He still has the lid as far as I know.

I would sure love to buy that lid off Bob, he could get some of the money back I got from him for parts I sold him for the Hemi Challenger.
I was running this in my mind that if his car came with that lid on a N96 car from the factory, then there might of been a Hemi T/A breather sitting at the factory ready to be installed on a 1971 Hemi Challengers. Then again I think Fram shipped the units complete from Fram to the Plant and maybe someone at Fram just sent it on it way with the wrong lid on a Shaker set up. I will have to look up the Build date on Bobs Hemi Challenger. Always like that Challenger.

There was a factory N94 HEMI Challenger living near me a few years ago. His uncle bought it from some collection, not knowing what it was at the time. When i saw it, it was supposedly the only build sheet/fender tag documented N94 Hemi Challenger. I believe it was sold due to divorse. I heard that it is the one at Restorations By Julius?????
I'm the CARETAKER of Weinstats '69 440 'cuda registry and have 104 of the 360 cars to date. 84 fastbacks/20 coupes. Always looking for new(REAL M-code) '69 440 'cudas to add to the registry so drop me a note if any are found or known. This isn't a publicly released registry. Thanks, Dave

So, it's possibly that Blue 71 Hemi Challenger's original factory installed air cleaner was probably the N94 TA Hemi assembly that John D bought! Maybe Downer suspected the same thing and wanted it back with the car.

According to Walt himself that car never was an N96 or N94 car also backed up by the b/c sheet. Plus he proceeded to shaker, louver, wing, wide hood mldg, wheelip option it as soon as he got it. Knowing Walt, and you knew him like I did Ken, he wouldn't want the air cleaner to re-unite with the car after just loading it up with shaker,etc...it would likely be for a trade deal he had in the works for something he wanted. Consider that some 19 year old line worker, after cashing his $92.00 check Thursday nite and hitting the suds with the proceeds...coming in fuzzy headed Friday morning, he may have grabbed a wrong air cleaner. Hope that didn't result in a N94 car leaving the line with a steel hood air cleaner. Or a trade, accidental or intentional on a new car lot... We know a lot of that went on. Just ask Steve J about the decklid swap on his orange 71 Hemi Challenger sunroof car, by the dealership owner himself when it sat brand new on his lot. One 71 orange Challenger decklid with a wing was swapped on to another 71 orange Challenger without a wing and both cars sold brand new that way. Now that you mention it Bruce, I do recall hearing Bob's black Hemi Challenger having that wide lipped hemi lid. Another oddity and ever so cool.

& just to clear up a few things earlier in the thread: JRepucci's NOS N94 HEMI base and the expertly crafted by "Resto Rick" HEMI wide lip lid & an early pre-production "prototype" (repositioned scoop) T/A hood currently resides on " el HEMI"; an original STANDARD 2-scooped-hood '70 HEMI Challenger R/T. el HEMI

This kind of thing went on back then. I know a guy who bought a 70 Charger R/T SE brand new,and the car had 14 inch magnum 500 wheels,he said he wanted the 15 inch rallye wheels,so they took the 15 inch rallye wheels off a sixpack Challenger R/T and swapped them with the magnum 500s to make the sale happen. The Challenger was sold with the magnums on it.

He did not want it too badly because he welched on a deal to trade for some run-of-the-mill Hemi exhaust manifolds that I needed for a project! I actually carried the air cleaner all the way from my car to the top of the hill at Carlisle where I met him with his manifolds and he backed out. I ended up selling it to someone else for just enough $ to get some good original exhaust manifolds. The guy that I sold it to was so happy to get it that he was literally shaking when I handed it over to him. He appreciated the rarity of it. For some reason, thanks to his buddy, Downer decided the manifolds were worth more than the air cleaner.

You're safe, Eddie!
Someone dragged up this thread from the past, when JP and I were kicking around ideas on what to do with the V code orange Challenger. There is that other FAST motor I was gathering parts for, but that looks like I am going to tame it down and put into the black V code 70 R/T.

Did a factory Hemi N94 hood have the 426HEMI emblem installed on the hood, as shown in the el Hemi pictures, from the factory?
Here's a possibly unanswerable question: If the Hemi N94 had an emblem, any ideas whether a 440-6 hood would have had 440-SIXPACK emblems on the N94 hood, if they had been made?
Any evidence turn up since the last time this thread was around for a factory 440-6 N94 Challenger?

Thanks for the info. I am planning out a 440 Six Pak Challenger build, and I'd like it to look as though it would if it had been built by the factory. Except for some larger wheels.
And I love the paint job. Very 70's. If the Mod Squad had had a Challenger, that's what it would have looked like.

I love the vintage paint job.
Did it come with the T/A hood from the factory?
Nobody knew or cared about codes back in the 1970's...at least not me at the time. It was however a factory R code Hemi, 4 spd, super track car...I knew that much! I bought the car in 1973 with a tunnel ram and aftermarket fiberglass hood installed. It also came with the factory T/A hood, hinges, T/A hood springs and the odd looking Hemi air cleaner in the trunk. I installed a Mag cross ram and bolted the T/A hood back on, I never used the OEM air cleaner. It may be in the attic somewhere...will have to look.

I did not save the VIN number info, I bought it in 1973 and sold it in 1979 to a John Moreno. The car turned up for sale in the late 1990's in Canton/Livonia MI area...someone did a backyard attempt on an "Alston" frame installation...not so good. Maybe somone on Moparts knows where the car is now, it had "Purple Haze" on the doors.

That license plate doesn't look like one from any of the four western provinces. Any chance of getting a closer pic. of the plate? The only T/A hooded Challenger out in these parts back in the mid 70's to early 80's was a 71 340 Challenger convertible that was curious yellow with a black top and interior. A guy in south Calgary owned if for years.

That car could be Rick Olczak's Hemi Challenger from La Belle province...looks like a Quebec plate. Rick owned it since new or almost new and I was always told that it was a factory TA hooded Hemi Challenger. Haven't seen or heard from him in years since he moved from Quebec. Dwight, I have pictures of that 340 Challenger convertible with the TA hood and was told it was added, but then again that is just what I was told.

Terry: The biggest, and only problem with that 71 340 convertible was, no fender tag or sheet. So it was basically his claim that it had the hood from the factory. I don't think anyone has seen the car in more than 20 or 30 years.

This car was first raced in Quebec by Tommy Mullin , after that it was owned by president of the CCOA ( Challenger Cuda Owners Association )Rick Olczak from Lachute now it belongs to R,Bolduc near Sherbrooke Quebec , and it is still in the condition you see in that picture ...i will post a picture of the car then ( tommy Mullin ) and now in it's present state.....

What did the factory install on the car, if in fact, it was ordered with the T/A hood?
Good question. Did the inner fenders get painted similar to the T/A, or did they just put a T/A hood on a car with a normal paint job?

There was a T/A hooded MEMI Challenger in my area several years ago. Supposedly the guys uncle bought it long ago out of a collection in Florida, not knowing what it was or even that they cared at the time. When I saw the car at a cruise and talked to him he said that it was at that time the ONLY build sheet documented HEMI T/A hooded car known. I believe he sold it due to divorce and it went to Julius's for restoration????

great thread! i am doing a '70 'cuda hemi 'vert, with an aar theme, and the air cleaner was a big deal to sort out. on top of that, it is a stage 5 intake. but, i found a fiberglass solution. it's all fabbed up, it's in paint now. had to do some serious mockup to get it all to work, but it should look fabulous once it's all said and done...... here is a link to my build, and here is a shot of it all mocked up, sans rubber...... https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...part=1&vc=1

Back to the paint question. Anyone have a survivor factory T/A hooded, non-T/A Challenger, that can say whether the top of the inner fenders was painted black, like a T/A, or if it was just left body color?

Here's the air cleaner again on my black 69 A12 when I had the 65 race Hemi in it. I cannot remember one person admiring that air cleaner for it's rarity over the many years I showed my car!

I'll this one also. My FF4 '70 Challenger R/T 383 & auto with A/C (702-SPD) w/N94 has cowl & fender jamb "blackout".
So does an N94 car with A/C use a standard air cleaner? Or fresh air?

Looks like this was the one the factory had Fram design for a 4 bbl N94 car like Dans. In fact it may be the very air cleaner pictured that he has now, as I saved the picture from another thread. Super rare today!!..as it was even back then.
i could now picture how that would clear the a/c unit-i wonder if there was a top plate under the hood to match the round seal? what cutout shape is under a t/a hood? speechless looking at that...i`ve made it my desktop pic.

I know I'm way late to the party here, but I finally found a picture of the Hemi fresh air lid off of "The Mailman's" black 71 N96 Hemi Challenger. I have this lid now, it's hanging on my living room wall. Also, Dad bought that blue 71 Hemi Challenger from Walt back in the 80's, then sold it back to him. The shaker was added, as well as other things. The part number for the fresh air lid is 3577396, but it is not "chrome with decal". That part number is 2658852, parts book confusion.

I know of at least 6 coded for the N94 hood for '71 - here's a CANADA spec. 383 4-spd R/T THANK YOU! Finally! That car from the tag would look awesome. it is "restored" without the hood OK that's crazy

The N94 hood would have been available on the 1970 cars after the hood was introduced. I do not know if the FAST guys check date codes?
(They must not check thing's too close since Tom has wheel lip moldings on his T/A. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />)
The N94 hood would have been available for 1971 also.
I am not aware of any that came factory on any 440-6 cars yet, but 340, 383 & Hemi cars are known. When Mopar decided in 1973/1974 to make all their sponsored NHRA Pro Stock racers switch and race in NHRA Super Stock A, SS/AA and all the way down to SS/G and SS/GA they wrote a letter to NHRA saying that Dick Landy 1971 Hemi Challenger had been made with a left over 1970 T/A hod on it as a special "Show Car" NHRA turned him down to be allowed to race that car with that hood until the "Letter" from Mopar on Mopar stationary made in 1973 was magically produced later that day Can you say do anything to win tactics, especially in drag racing Mopar was not the first company to fib to NHRA about factory produced cars for racing, look at the 1968 Ford 428 HP FE motors rated at 335 HP, 5 HP more than the HP 390 in the 1967 Fairlane, Mustangs, Cougars and Mercury Cyclones

Well, I don't chime in very much, but this thread irritates me. Give credit where credit is due. That 426 Hemi base plate for the N94 hood on a 1970 red Hemi Challenger, auto car was sold to Mark Ainsworth, in IIRC Luling Texas It was April of 1984, He called Me up the last day of March It was a Saturday, I had just picked up a 71 RT, FC7 Challenger, shaker hood, rear rubber bumper, 383 auto on the floor That morning. He called Me that afternoon and offered me the 1970 Hemi Cuda, lime green, original 4 gear car, shaker hood was There. But no scoop. He offered to trade this project car, to me for the TA Hemi base plate And air cleaner lid. I didn't do it. But passed it to Alan Vaset In Dallas, and told Him if He would sell the R code Hemi Cuda Project to Alan, and have Alan send me a cashier check, to let Alan Get the Hemicuda. The previous story of getting a Base on this From Terry McCann is not true. I bought the base plate from Al McDonald in Jersey. It kills Me how these stories are do full of crap. One reason I don't stay active in the hobby. Terry McCann can vouch for my Honest And Al Macdonald Paul Suloff Wes Cree Kevin Kelleher Stan Beckman John Mahoney Paul Mitchell Wayne Perkins Jim Rhinehart Wayne Voigt Danny Irby Tom Guzmich Harlan Avezzie Ralph Yarnell Jerry McClain Al Vespucci I was the first plain old Hemi Owner that got the 3418 652 Hemi Shaker base plates remade by Fram in the summer Of 1980, and sold them for cost to people needing one. $ 63.75 plus shipping No profit, it was not about money. It was about helping People Get Their car restored. Also, off the top of my head, Dave Blake knows me Pat Blais Roland, now gone Mike Crawford Ola knows me. It is funny how stories are not factual. Also. I have know Rick Olczak for 40 plus years. Richard Heidbreder Charles Cheshier Barry Taylor Mark Headrick On the N94, Six Pack 1970 Challenger, they made one I know Of. It was about 50 miles north of Columbus, Ohio. It has since been sold, and last I knew it was in Michigan. I will do some checking. All I ask is Be Honest and tell the Truth. I will Help anyone. Randy PM me for any questions, Thank You.

Randy
Thanks for taking the time to contribute to this very informative thread as it is always interesting to learn more. Your statements about giving credit where credit is due, and that it kills you that these stories are so full of crap, and about being honest and telling the truth, seem to stem from the fact that you were the one who supplied the N94 base traded for the Hemicuda and should be given the credit. If that is the case we commend you for setting the record straight. Regarding the sentence ," the previous story of getting a Base from Terry McCann on this is not true ", since I am mentioned by name, just to clarify,..... I obviously had no input in the writing of that part of the story as that sentence could be interpretted that way. Statements on page 4 of this thread from 2010 are by Alan V ( xs29j8 ) "by the way , the gentleman the air cleaner was purchased from is "mccannix" and by myself "I never could remember who got it or what happened afterwards because this would have been in the mid 80's ". Yes you are well known in the hobby and yes I can vouch for you.... as I'm sure many others you mentioned in the hobby can. It seems that the 'irritation' you have is the way Alan relayed the story, It would be nice if he chimed in but he hasn't been seen here since 2020 All in all, in my opinion the thread is a good read and thanks for the valued contribution.

Anyone remember a black shaker 70 Challenger in Frankfort, Indiana in the mid 70's? I can't remember if it was a 340 or 383 car but it definitely had a shaker. Too bad the cell phone cameras were not around then, nobody carried even an instamatic in their cars then! I saw the car sitting on a street in the downtown area several times around 1975-76...

I get asked a lot if I have pictures of cars from back in the mid 70's. I agree with Rhino that we never carried cameras in our cars back then.... ....we carried beer coolers

Hi,
The 3rd Hemi is a purple car. I have no FT pics to prove it.
The same with the 70 Challenger 440 sixpack. Car is FY1car, i have some pics of the car, if you want. According to owner he didnt understand the hood option was something special.
Thanks Nicklas please, add what you can - do you have VIN numbers?

I started racing in NHRA stock class at the 1974, maybe 1973 or 1975, NHRA Winternationals the year Mopar made all their factory sponsored Pro Stock racers switch back to racing in the NHRA S/S classes, Dick Landy built a 1971 Challenger 4 speed car with a 440 6 pack motor in it with a T/A fiberglass hood on it for that year, tech threw him out and one of the Mopar Drag race team members wrote, type up, a letter stating that Dodge had ran out of Shaker when Landy car was made and they installed one of the "left over 1970 T/A fiberglass hoods" (AAR Cuda and T/A Challenger didn't sell worth a hoot back in 1970) on some of early 1971 Challngers with the hemi and 440 6 pack motors in them in the beginning of the 1971 production years due to not having any complete shaker hood kits for several weeks in the late fall of 1970 , which was a made up factory effort to get him into that race, which NHRA after seeing that letter let him back in to race at that race. I think he lost in the 1st or 2nd round of S/S class racing on Friday due to red lighting Cheaters never win I was helping a customer, Steve and Linda Myers, race a 1970 Challenger R/T in A/SA that they had bought from a junk yard in SO CA with no motor or tranny in it, I had sold them a hemi moor , trans and K member from a total 1968 hemi Road Runner and installed in their 1969 Plymouth GTX Pink Panther which got wreck on the trailer going to a race earlier that year They ended up buying the complete Shaker hood kit from DLI in April or maybe late march of 1973 or 1974 (CRS now,:confused): to get the fresh air into the carbs. Lots of politics back then by a lot of racers and NHRA sponsors like the car makers. I'm pretty sure that letter caused all the controversary about the fiberglass T/A hoods being used on other non T/A cars from the "factory"
