those are some good times, looks by the pics that your car is well sorted out chassis wise, what did that motor turn in the traps?

It was running about 6000rpm give or take a hundred...
Yep chassis is a big part of a drag car!

Well, I guess your Duster is fast without much power. I wonder what id run with a good 410, or a 318 for that matter.

I think it ran very well for the combination. However, if it was in the 10s, it was just squeaking in to the high 10.9s based on what my own results were. Your 60-fts were better, but my MPHs were better.

1.46 7.00 95.6
1.45 6.987 95.5
1.43 6.94 96

vs.

1.518 6.960 97.47 11.003 121.01
1.518 6.998 96.78 11.067 120.14
1.512 6.998 98.06 11.043 120.85
1.521 6.995 97.04 11.046 121.11
1.542 7.012 97.87 11.044 121.70
1.530 6.993 97.93 11.026 121.49
1.528 6.963 98.39 10.973 122.51

Yep, it's not really a true 10 second deal if you look at my cars suspension (although it's not a true RACE car either, I mean hey I have full interior in this thing!)and the only reason it clicked off a 6.90 is how hard it leaves...and the fact that the engine makes good power.
I don't care what anyone says, in Drag racing the starting line is where it's at.

This is PROOF of that!!
Ofcourse the mph will be low, it only made 485HP and that was with no mufflers, no alternator and with the other headers that didn't fit my car.
I will say this again...ANYONE with good suspension like my car can run these numbers...ANYONE!
I even used a street converter...infact I've been driving the car to work a few days a week just because it's been so much fun!!
I forgot how many looks you get and how many thumbs up you get just driving around...LOL!

Being very real with this build, I'd say a typical street car with some suspension mods, slicks or street slicks and a typical street gear between 3.55 and 3.91 should be able to run 11.30's to 11.50's with no problem.

Actually my car is geared WAY too low for this engine, it just blows through the powerband of this engine ridiculously fast. 1st gear is about useless on the street and second gear is almost useless.

My car is not very light...so unless the engine has decent power, it's like any other car really.
If we do a "part 2" with this build, we'll find out...

Yep. Although I was happy to have found 4+ more MPH from the #s above when I brought the car out again in 2008-2009, I may be even happier to have cut the 60-ft. times down from 1.51-1.53 to 1.45-1.46 still using the same 4.10 gear, 9.5" street/strip converter and DOT-legal tires.

Put the engine in my car that we built for CarCraft just to make a car show here locally a few weeks ago with the help of Rob and decided since I was basicly called out for things like "485HP is pathetic for a big cammmed 410" and "those heads are not stock" even though that's the way we sell them with NO PORTING I figured the only way to silence the PEANUT GALLERY was to run it!
So last night, me and Rob took the car to Irwindale Speedway where they have a nice little 1/8 drag strip and got 3 runs in before leaving.

Mark and Phil were also there to share in the fun. Good to see you guys again!

So the pathetic 485HP 410, Rob's 3500 stall 10" Hughes converter, mech. water pump, alternator, all street legal with muffs to boot right off the trailer it went 7.00 at 95.6 MPH with a 1.46 60ft!
I removed the aircleaner and already had the air pan on and it didn't seem to help much as it went 6.987 at 95.5 MPH with a 1.45 60ft.
Last run I really leaned on it at the starting line, launching at 3300rpm, carrying the front end a bit it went 6.94 at 96 MPH with a 1.43 60ft!!

So there it is, my 3350lb car went 10's with this "pathetic" as it was called pump gas 410 with UNPORTED RHS heads and RPM intake, 750DP holley carb, my 1 7/8 headers cause that's what I had which made less power than the 1 5/8 headers, and a HYD FLAT TAPPET CAM!

Yes I did run slicks...Ohhhhh shooot now I'm in trouble....LOL....LOL.....LOL!!

This engine made 485HP and 517TQ on our dyno and this is what it ran in my car....I will have pics tonite, and scans of the time slips...is that enough?
It will have to be....ha ha ha!!

Why worry about what some internet clowns have to say?, the 517 ft. lbs. is what gets the car moving, let everyone else get in a frenzy over power and flow numbers, nice job.

I wasn't worried really. Infact, I didn't really even want to run the car because I wasn't sure I could make it launch without spending some time with the carb.
My normal engine is a W2 headed 360 that I launch with a brake and 2 step.
I figured that if it did dip into the 6's in the 1/8 that at least people would see first hand what they can expect from our dyno #'s in a real car which is what we race, not #'s!

So I felt it would not only show that but I can benefiet too by knowing what works on the street and strip with our heads.
Plus it did make for some interesting time spent and getting in the car again after a long dry spell was really fun!!
Really, how many companies do this kind of thing? Not many....
