I am looking for a post or some information on installing a late model 5sp manual behind and early LA series 360 including good donor cars for such parts, etc.

The only late model 5 speed manual that will bolt to a small block is a NV3500.

It's a 5 speed from Dakotas and Rams.

1st gear is too low for a car. It's 4.0:1.
Ratios are too wide for racing and it's big x huge and will not fit into a car without extreme modifications.

I found an old story in Mopar action from a few months back that read there was an NV3500 and an NV4500 both trucks trans and poor gears. If money was no object; a Viper trans is the way to go. I am looking into the T-56 option also.

I believe there are some members who have adapted the Mustang transmission. It took quite a bit of custom engineering. Perhaps one will see this post.

An overdrive 4 speed or Keisler 5 speed is an option but not as budget friendly. I understand the 6 speed takes lots of floor and X member modification to fit.

3.9 dakotas ip to 96ish used an Aisin AX15. if you get the bellhousing from one, you can bolt on an aisin R154 (toyota supra tranny). getting it to fit in the tranny tunnel is another issue.

if it's a light car with a mild 318, you can adapt a T-5 fairly easily.

Don't forget the New Process A535 from the early Dakotas. They pop up on ebay frequently for $600 rebuilt.

Parts I seek: driver doorpanel, 65 Sport Fury, prefer black, needs to be 7-8 on 10 scale, might buy set 16" x 6" Dodge truck wheel(s), from early 70s?, takes 9" dogdish - need for a research job so cheaper is better. 69-73 C-body caliper brackets and/or splashields Send a PM.

I've read that the Dakota transmissions are marginal on being strong enough to live behind a 360. A stock 360 that's driven reasonably will probably work fine. If the plan is to modify the 360 for more power and add some slicks....good luck!

The T-5 was used in Camaros and Firebirds with the V6 and 305 engines. I'm fairly certain the factory 350 cars only came with an automatic.

The T5 is a garbage transmission. It'll hold up OK for granny use on an itty bitty V8.

T5 isn't bulletproof but it isn't garbage, either. Lots of 86-93 Mustang guys pounded on them back in the day - and still do. Like most things, there are some versions that are stronger and there are a few weakness that can be upgraded without breaking the bank. All depends on what your goals are...

Here's an adapter bell from SB to Ford transmissions:

donb't get from this co. Get from QuicTime themselves they have them on sale right now; $250. way better than $488! same P/N (6071) QT has them on a clearance; I had bought one but returned it; only since it woun't work with a magnum engine's 143 T flywheel.

Volaredon's right, there are some on clearance almost 1/2 price from QT. The link I posted is a little cheaper otherwise though.

Either way, as with most things, once you find a mfg part# it's best to shop around.

There was a guy on another forum that used a 5 speed from a Chevy S-10. But I don't know how strong that tranny would be.

The Supra trans. requires a lot of time finding the parts and I really don't care for the idea of a Toyota trans in my Mopar. I am very familiar with the T5 and can build it strong enough to do the job but I am really leaning toward a Richmond or a Jerico.

4 bangers would be an NVG 1500 (weak little tranny) 6 bangers would be an NVG 3500, which has an integrated bell in it, so you'd need some sort of an adapter plate (or use a dodge NVG3500)
