Here's what to do. Take some aluminum foil and crumble it up into a loose ball at least 4 inches in diameter. Place it on you current air cleaner. Shut hood. Open hood. Measure the thickness of the aluminum ball which is now somewhat flat. If it's no more than 3 inches thick, then the RPM intake/carb/air cleaner should fit under the hood.

The Edelbrock RPM intake is just under 3 inches taller than a stock iron intake. So, just to be on the safe side, say it's 3 inches tall.

Sounds good but I'm willing to do with a different air cleaner if need be. I thought I'd ask since the 440 rpm manifold is a popular choice and there are a bunch of bb 70 challengers out there. Thanks

I have it with a 1" spacer on my 71 cuda. I had to use a very short air filter with a drop base. Probably choking the crap out of the engine, but it seems to be happy. I don't know if the challenger is the same though.

you have to run a 2inch element and then put a k&n extreme lid on it so you dont choke the motor out

hummmm with a drop base air cleaner it will. I don't think it will fit w/ a standard base.

I run an RPM setup on my car. It will clear if you use a drop base cleaner. I think mine was a 1 5/8" drop using a 3" element. I also used the K&N open element top to help air flow.

So am I to understand that the RPM manifold wont clear a CHallenger Hood (if) I decide to use the factory stock breather?

You cannot run the complete factory air cleaner assembly...so NO. But you can buy a drop base for your lid and it will fit.

I'm using 440 in a challenger (R/T hood) with performer rpm manifold and a eddie 800avs, must use drop base air filter and even then you must be careful of the height of the air cleaner stud-nut. And thats with a .25" thick gasket. From what I understand, if you use a performer manifold, or a holley SD the stock one fits.

Height with the eddie 800avs, or a holley DP carb was the same as I had a holley carb before.

Something to consider - vapor lock. With this manifold, there is no room to run a thick gasket to insulate carb from heat. Wish I went with the holley SD manifold instead.
