Ed Cook's kid James' FAST A12 RR.

Car weighs about 3,850 w/driver. 100% FAST legal 493" w/stock sixpack. Worn out CF dual friction clutch with stock shifter. No suspension tricks. Liberty geared 833. On the G60-15 bias ply redline tires. The kid can drive the car well.

11.12 @126.

My best ever with the 383 was a 12.56 at somewhere around 107. This is in a 70 RR, at the time it was with the 3.73 741 case rear and a 23 spline A833. I was running slicks and collector extensions on the headers, otherwise just as driven on the street. The clutch was an old Hays Pro Stock that kept your left leg in shape. Guessing with me in it the car is about 4000 lbf. Eventually blew up the rear but what went was the left (stock) axle shaft, broke clean off, twisted the right shaft, broke teeth off the spider gears inside the Sure-Grip, and you could see where the ring gear had been hitting the housing. The ring and pinion were fine, sold them to someone here on Moparts and as far as I know they are dong fine.

Now the car has a 452 built by DRAM. The rear is a 4.3 Strange 60 with a Tru Trac. Still the original rear springs, with clamps on the forward sections. Same tranny. Clutch has a Mcleod 800 disc, which has organic facings on the pressure plate side and kevlar puck like thingies on the flywheel side. Pressure plate is a Mcleod that was reworked by 4speedsavoy's clutch guy. At the time the car had the 383 (blew it up not long after installing the new clutch and scattershield) so hopefully it will still work with slicks. Have not had a chance to take it to the track yet. Have heard that the track is open the 5th February so hopefully will get to test it that night.

My combo is fairly close to the OP's.

Very close to stock 40k original mile 1966 440(untouched stock bore, pistons, bearings, etc.) Orig. 516 heads with larger exhaust valves, .509 MP cam, Hooker 1 7/8" headers, 3" exhaust to Flowmasters.
Torker II single plane intake with Holley 750 DP carb.
Stock MP HP clutch setup, stock Hemi 4 speed, Super Stock springs, snubber, 4.10 rear gear with 28x12.50 ET Street tires.
Heavy all steel street car except glass T/A hood.
I've only had it to the track a few times (notice no cage and window half down in pic ) but I've owned, driven, and street raced this car for 30 years.

Best ET was 11.83 with a soft launch to keep from breaking the 8 3/4 rear(again)

A 4-speed can be just as quick as an auto if you can drive it. I see alot of stick cars with not so good drivers. The auto is much easier to drive and not as hard on the drivetrain. I used to bracket race a 340 four speed Dart and I loved driving it. Ran 11.94 @ 112 best. It was fun banging gears and to me you need to make your stick car sound like an auto shifting if you know how to drive it. But my auto in my 63 is much easier on the drivetrain. I cant imagine how good the drivetrain needs to be on 10 second and faster stick cars. Ron

When I say stock clutch, I mean rag disc.......It's got a Mcleod pressure plate.......I recently bought a #98503 Ram Power Grip Performance disc and plate that I'll be installing next week......I'll use that to find the next weakest link......

Car's got 4.10's with a 27X10.5 Hoosier QT/Pro (I figure using that tire on the typical Friday night TNT at Tulsa is like racing on bias ply poly's at a track that's prepped as good as most of the FAST races.... ).....If I leave very hard, it just runs through the clutch, so I rev to about 3K, get the peddle all the way out and then put the hammer down and start rowing gears......Best 60' is a 1.66, so it's got a lot of room for improvement........

It's also got a Passon Performance aluminum crash box with synchro'd 1st for easy street driving The trans shifts like butter...... I don't know what I'm shifting at.......Car doesn't have a tach in it .......It's got a 7K chip in the 6AL and I've never hit it.......so I'm guessing that I'm shifting around 6,400-6,600........

I'm dying for the track to open so I can hopefully get it into the 10.40 to 10.50 range.....and hopefully get a little more trap speed out of it with some tuning.....

The 10.86 run was at 3,200 DA.......I'd really like to run it at E-town when the FAST guys are there in mine shaft air......

Wayne

I know auto is faster but I like gears,,,,,

All things being equall a stick is quicker and faster than a slush box. More fun too. Also more headache. If a gear box is in your future do not skimp on a clutch. That makes or breaks the deal.

My best is a 10.30 @131.11.

I was using 1-2 Pro shifted and 3-4 face plated Hemi 4 speed.

It's an absolute blast to drive.

What is the face plating process and how much does it usually cost?

23 spline here. If something "gives" and it's not overly powerfull / heavy,....it SHOULD live.

My tires do all the slipping at the line, to keep the car in it's powerband and keep the shock off the hard parts. Just a couple revolutions of the tire and then we are hooked.
