Should I keep the distributor I paid $155, buy the correct vacuum advance $80 and buy the correct tag $25 with a total cost of $260 or try and locate one that is 100% correct. What are my chances of finding one?

Is the shaft of a 70 distributor smooth or does it have square notches? Looking at pics of distributors I see all smooth shafts but a distributor I bought off of ebay and another distributor that collectors auto supply has it is also not smooth. The date on that distributor is 070 with a part #3438222. There is a picture of the distributor on the 1st post.

I'm trying to determine which vacuum canister is right for a 340 six pack. I know The pic you posted are 440 and wonder if the dates you referred to apply to an AAR. I've seen both types on the 3438521 distributor but wonder if either was just put on to show a completed part. I've always thought the one on the left was correct but just saw a pic of a NOS and it has the other.

Thanks
