youd prob be better off to run an overdrive trans, get your reduction that way...but you might try randys ring and pinion

Did any B-body 9 1/4s come with 2.2x or 2.4x gears?

The tallest I've heard of for a 9.25 is 2.71
late 70's and 80's 8.25's can be had with 2.45 and even 2.24 gears, but I'm not sure how it would hold up behind a diesel?

Doesn't sound like the man is beating on it just looking for a ideal cruising gear...

I have been looking for a while for the right gears for my wagon. I have a `68 Satellite Sport Wagon that I put a 4 cyl. turbo`d Cummins with auto. trans in. I want to run 28" tires and want to cruise at 1750 to 1850 at around 65mph. that calls for 2.1 gears. Right now I`m running 2.76`s with 31.5 tires, and running at about 60@ 1850. The (sweet spot) on the 4BT is around 1750 for best torque AND fuel economy. Does anybody know of a shop with the capabilities to try to make these gears?
Pics or it didn't happen. What trans are you using?

Now that you mention it, Dave Marcis told me years ago about having a bunch of 8 3/4 chunks he was thinking of selling. IIRC, they ranged from low 2.?? setups to 6.?? something. It was 10 or 12 years ago when we were talking about it. I'd say he sold them long ago. You might try Cotton Owens, in Spartanburg,SC to see if he might still have gears like you are looking for. He's a grouchey old fart, but you might catch him on a good day.

Have you visited the site 4BTSWAPS.COM; there is a ton of swap info there - here's the link. http://www.4btswaps.com/forum/index.phpI know you mention an O/D trans is out, but there may be info on a reasonably price O/D setup out there. Using a 47RH seems to be mentioned a lot. As to gear ratios, I kinda recall having an 85ish Dippy with a 2.29 geared 8 1/4 in it.

Some 8 1/4 Mopar rearends had 2.45 gears in them. I have one for an A-body, but I don't know if those gears were available in a B-body 8 1/4. If they were, I doubt you'd have any trouble out of an 8 1/4 strength wise. Just a thought
F/M body 8.25's are the right width and can be found with 2.24's and 2.45's I believe....
a late B 9 1/4 might have a 2.30ish rear, but is 4" too wide.

With the power he's putting out, wouldn't 8 1/4 hold up fine, especially if it was a suregrip?

He's got a wagon though, I'm pretty sure a B body wagon rear is more like E body or C body width. It would probably work with the right backspace wheels though.
