Ok here we go turbos are not cheap they are a nitemare to plum the headers alone are 2000 dollars if you do them right! And no you cant make big power without good parts! It takes big RPM to get turbos to make boost and you are not going to do this with stock rods and pistons. If you do it wont live long so dollar for dollar a good n/a over a stock bottom end turbo motor makes good sence for someone wanting to race or go fast on a budget!!
Not true...at all actually, it takes very a very manageable rpm to make boost with a properly sized turbo. I have see 1000k hp numbers at around 6000 rpm numerous times. We plan on making around 1300 at 6500 rpm. I dont think there is a small block on the planet doing that, regardless of cid

it surprises me that with a screen name like yours you would post something like this that is 100% false. no naturally aspirated engine will develop the torque a turbocharged one will at lower rpm. it doesn't take rpm to make a turbo run it takes hot exhaust gases and they can be had at lower rpm. it's all a matter of having the turbo properly matched to the engine. the real problem with stock rods and pistons would be handling the increased HP a turbo will make not necessarily the rpm.

11's from a stock slant 6 shifting at 4500rpm ain't so bad. No RPM and good longevity. Prolly less than 5k into the car. Most expensive items in that amount were the car and the turbo.

You should read his quote before firing off...he said "There are 550 dollar turbos on 360" motors running mid 8's on 10 inch tires....
He did not say the engine was 550 dollars

Dont know what planet you guys are from but i build turbo cars as well as procharged cars and you dont take junk yard short blocks and go 8 nothing!!And yes it does cost 2000 to do a set of headers the right way.If you like your cars rough weld it yourself buy a kit from somewere and mig it up and look like sh.....t yea they dont cost 2000! But if you do it right TIG them measure air flow to make max power max boost then you will spend the money. And as far as making 13# of boost and only going 11,50s ill fix that for ya sometime just let me know ill find the loss of power for ya!! I have got cars only making 10#s of boost running 10,00s oh and they dont have junk yard parts!BET this anytime anyone on here wants to meet me at any track for a grude race with a boosted car that they built you got me,Ill be there with my money in hand and a car i built street car or race car!!! MOPARS RULE just to many old .school guys that wont try anything new
Well instead of running your dummy about someone else's car you built with their money, how about you put up YOUR car for that same race and maybe you will have a few takers...

I used 7 2.375 180 bends that was 550 from SPD exhaust. I used 7 2.25 J bends from Vibrant 600. 3/8 stainless flanges are 100 I was supplied the collectors ( Dynatek ) they were probably at least 500. This is for a Pro mod with Nitrous I just finished. You still have to weld and fit Pro custom headers are expensive and it doesn't cost much more if any , to plumb to a collector or a turbo flange. You just have the added expense of the discharge tube , charge tube , waste gates, BOV, fuel system etc. Oh ya that stuff starts to add up. Turbo SYSTEMS cost money more parts = more money. If you could bolt on a set of $600 headers on this car if you could would you?

Dude, nothing I do would ever impress you, cuz you obviously think your the greatest around. Boost is a measure of restriction, you should know that my stock junk head, stock exhaust manifold setup will take boost to make power. Send me some money and I'll change the top end and make plenty of horsepower to run 9's on 10 lbs.
My car is one part from 10's. A topend from 9's, but it doesn't matter what I do to you, you just wanna talk smack.
I built this kit to show Mopar guys how easy it was to make power with nothing special, cheap parts. Not everyone NEEDS $2000 dollar headers. Go Green is basically one of one in Mopar world. I'd love to have the stuff he does, but I don't have that kind of money, and most don't.
11.48 @ 120 with a 1.80 60' 318, stock 1.88 heads, stock 904, Pump Gas, 13 lbs of boost.
9.94 @ 134, 318 on pump gas, 14 lbs w/ Eddies, transbrake 727, 3600 lbs, 3.54 gear and 28's.

I looked into the turbo thing for my /6 swinger. I got as far as grabbing an old KKK turbo off a volvo- a little too small for fast spooling was the thought. Admittedly, a very mild application! Anyway, the showstopper for me was fuel delivery. The fabrication is nothing but something to do, and the necessary componants aren't too much money when you can get 4cyl import equipment used. I was just afraid of the learning curve of tuning for street use.
I could have made a hat for the carb and boost referenced the power valves, got a wastegate and blowoff valve and I already had a wideband o2 and boost/vac. guage, but it seemed like the compromises for carburated drivability were pretty huge?
All the really fast guys with turbos seem to be doing aftermarket EFI with lots of laptop tuning.
Personally I wanna break into the 12's so I'm no expert or competitive racer, just sayin'...
On the other hand, to make a track only car with 'cheap' stuff for a regular hobbyist, maybe 6-800hp is much easier with a turbo?
Not everybody needs 1200 HP! I'd like to give it a try if I hit the lotto though...
