I have attached some pics to show the interference issues. It fits my 440 block no problem. I am not sure what these bosses are for, and before grinding I thought I should ask.

Yes, you need to grind it down. I had to do the same thing on my 528 block.

not that you can't get the pins out with other methods but if you know anyone at an automotive machine shop a dowel pin puller is really the best way. it's one of my tools that gathers a lot of dust but man are they handy when you need one.

You will also have to clearance the 3/8 pipe plug boss that connects the outlet of the oil pump to the passengers side oil galley. Once you remove the obvious interference areas you have marked, it will then hit the boss. Grind-mock-check-repeat

Typical clearence issues. As far as the dowels go,get a thick nut that will fit over it,zap it with a mig welder(dowel to nut)turn it while it still hot with a box wrench or socket while prying outward with a small crowsfoot or screw driver.Just leave enough room between the nut and block to pry against. The cast block will expand more than the steel dowel pin.

Bob, that will work for sure, but dont forget that those dowel pins are oversize, they are not 1/4", so he may not be able to re-use them with that method, or just make sure you get a spare set before you start.

Gotcha...I thought you were maybe removing a set that was already installed....my bad. As an FYI, the dowels are slightly oversize by a few thousanths to make a better press fit when using the standard type drill bit.

Good luck.
