I am in need of some help. I am looking to find out the size of the space saver for my 70 challenger 440 car. The vehicle has 14 inch rally wheels on it and believe it to be correct(original 21,000 miles). I do not have a build sheet so all I can do is assume by the restorations books i have read. Also the vehicle has a rear defroster and have seen some original paper work stating that this would require a space saver. I have been told that w/14 inch rally wheels the space saver would be E-78-14 with a 14x5 1/2 wheel with a part #2944236. I found this space saver on the internet and the guy wants $550.00 restored. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

You should have a f78-14 BF Goodrich Space Saver. The correct rim is a Kelsey Hays (KH) and there is no Chrysler part number on it. As far as I know no 70-71 E-body came with an E-78 space saver. Do a search here in moparts. There have many of threads on this topic. You may want to post over in the Resto section too. Do some research before buying. There are a lot of mis-informed sellers (and shysters) out there hoping to score big money on the compact spare confusion.

Read this post before you do anything.
70 'Cuda full size spare wheel (Rim) size?

The part number, 2944236, you listed is for a full size spare.

Required only with dual speakers and rear defogger, otherwise it would be an extra cost option as with any other 14" equipped hardtop.

I am confused. I thought if the car came with 15 inch rally wheels then you would have a F-78-14(7.75-14) space saver and E-78-14(7.35-14) if the car has 14 inch wheels. Also does build date play a part in the space saver size. My build is 3/70 which puts it 6 months into the model year(exactly mid year).

See the page at this link;

Also see W34 (and H31) on this page;

R31 here;

The tire size noted at the first link is the early one, it did change during the model year.

I do not see any mention of the space saver being required with R31 or H31?

Thanks for all the info. I think if i put it all together I should have a space saver that is a 14x51/2 rim with no part number with a BFG F-78-14 tire .

The spare tire hold down theaded rod was in a different location for space saver spares as compared to the full size spares. If your trunk is original post a pic of the hold down area.

Would someone be kind enough to post pics of the locations. My RT/SE has a rear defroster and two rear speakers. I received the car without any spare or jack.
Thanks
